Whoa, at $400, that is a great deal. Looks like it uses the Titan cooler as well, no?

Apparently no one is shipping the reference card, so don't expect to ever see that cooler at retail. We'll have to see what the partner cards can do.

"Cheaper" is relative to the consumer considering the game bundle. It's worth something to some, to others who own the games not really anything.

And "faster" is really a symbolic term at best and depends on the review, HWC puts it as a 3% loss for the 770. Which, again, is symbolic - in general, the cards tie.

I'm very glad they went for the $399 price point though.

Why? If people want more performance then they need to go with the GTX780 or Titan.

And we see right now what all the talk about the price/performance of the 7970GHz was really worth: nothing.

Now nobody can't say anything about the price of the GTX790 because they have another option.

on the Anandtech review the 770 was 102% of the 7970GHz, on TPU the 7970GHz is 95% of the 770... looks really close... now the 770 is cheaper, the 7970 comes with games and more memory... it's really hard to choose..

a pretty nice card compared to Titan and the 780 when you consider the price difference... but... it's simply a 680 OC (but cheaper I guess)...
still, I can't help but feel like the VGAs have stagnated more than they should since Q2 2012!?

sure there is GK110, but the price difference is to big...
it would be good to see a new big GPU from AMD, like what the 7790 was to the 7770, but for the 7970...

It's equal to the GHz. :whiste: Power consumption is not great and who cares.:whiste:

It also looks like it doesn't overclock and better than the 680, I guess it's not even binned chips?

I wonder if this is the 'revised' benchmark list in which NV just gained what 5% (mentioned in the other thread)?

The great thing is it should drive prices down slightly. The GHz will have to drop from $450.

I wonder how far the GHz will go down?

$400 GTX680 with little faster RAM...
Great value for someone who plays AC3, Borderlands, F1 2012, Starcarft 2, World of Warcraft where it leads by around 20%... Other than that 7970 seems far better.

But since it is so much better value than 680 ($20 cheaper http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814187183) I expect AMD to lower their prices aswell. Good news to consumers!

I don't think the 7970GHz has to go below $400, maybe $400 before rebates. It comes with the games and more memory, which is appealing to some people but not everyone. The games are nice for people who don't have them and want to play them, but if you don't want them they can't be sold for much right now. If AMD can get their crossfire drivers out soon, the 7970GHz can use its extra memory for multi-card and multi-monitor resolutions.

Has anyone experienced weird "skippings" with 670/680? I used to experience it both in 3D and 2D. It's as if the card is catching up a frame or two every 5 minute. (but there was nothing to catch up, the card was smooth otherwise) It's really minor but once I'd learned to see it I couldn't get over it.

I sold my 670 earlier this year and I wonder if that is fixed by drivers or this "new" GK104. NV seems to have come a long way with its memory controllers. (Does anyone remember NF680i/780i..)

All but one of TPU's samples hit over 8000MHz, still has some gas in the tank from stock, not too bad. The power vs 680 and GHz is quite nice to see I wonder if that's refinements in the uarch or simply process maturity?

There is almost no power difference between 770 and 680

4watts in average can be due to difference in board design, RAM (Samsung K4G20325FD-FC28) etc

Anandtech has it closer to 7970 GE on power draw. TPU has a really nice sample unit. Doubt much if anything changed in the chip itself, 28nm has matured.

I don't see anything to indicate binning. It's just a 680 with 50MHz more, it doesn't even OC any better. Unless nv has given you the privileged info?

Process maturity. I bet Nvidia didn't change 1 transistor. And why did they need to? It's already got fantastic perf/w and perf/mm^2. In fact, I think the 770 is drawing a few more watts because of the 7 Gbps vram which is undoubtedly running at a higher voltage and power consumption than 6gbps.

Well, i'm happy that the 450-500$ predictions were wrong! - this should be a nice card to recommend at a 400$ price level.

It seems like the 7Gbps modules are already near their maximum limits, having been pushed well past the frequencies of previous designs. Our sample hit a plateau of 7468MHz, above which the GDDR5’s error correction kicked in and capped performance.

I don't think there's anything changed behind the scenes with the 770. Best news is the price drop! Which means 7970 may drop as well.

The GDDR5 memory chips are made by Samsung and carry the model number K4G20325FD-FC28. They are specified to run at 1750 MHz (7000 MHz GDDR5 effective). Please note that this is the first time that 7 Gbps GDDR5 chips are used on a graphics card.
