Hey,

Ï was hoping someone can help me out with an issue I'm having.

I have a HDTV as my only PC screen (a 40" Samsung). My PS4 is also connected to it. So what I did is I connected my external speakers to the TV via 3.5mm jack. This way both my PC and my PS4 can use the speakers (really good ones) - as I'm using one or the other anyway.

Problem is, when the screen goes dark (power setting "when to turn screen off"), the sound also disappears. As soon as I move my mouse / press a key on the keyboard, the picture and sound come back.

Any idea how can I keep my sound working and keep the screen off setting in place? I don't want to keep the screen showing my desktop all the time but I like to keep Spotify running most of the time I'm around house.

Any ideas? Thanks!

How are the speakers connected? If there is an amp between, just connect your devices to that. If not, then you need something that allows you to connect the output from the PC and PS4. A small mixer etc will do fine.

The TV is going to cut out sound when it goes to standby as it expects you to not want to hear audio when there is no picture.

Speakers go into the 3.5mm jack in the TV. I don't really want to use another device.

It's not the TV that goes into standby, it's the card. The TV is still running. As soon as I move my mouse, the sound pops back in.

You might check in windows settings to see if power saving is enabled for the sound output and disable it so your sound doesn't get shut off.

In power options, you can set the turn off the display option to never.

Then from the TV's remote, go to menu->picture -> picture off.

This way you will lose a bit of power saving from the graphics card, but you will also gain around 50W from the TV.

Alternatively, you can use the stereo jack outputs of both your computer and the tv and connect them to something like this.

This is normal and expected behavior, for the audio to cut out when the monitor signal goes dark, because the video card stops sending the HDMI signal (both video and audio).

If you want the screen to blank, but the audio to continue, try changing your Windows power profile to put monitor to sleep to "never", and then under desktop customizations, change your screensaver to "blank screen", and set it for the same duration.

That way, your monitor will no longer shut off, but your screen will go blank instead.
