DP has no impact on gaming till now .If you need a compute card 580 is better but not for anything else. You can browse the FS/T section for some good deals.

Since 3D software is starting to have CUDA and/or OpenCL acceleration (with some mature implementations) for rendering/viewport purposes 580s are way faster than the 600 and 700 series. 580s are hard to find because of this and the 3 gb models are sold for insane amounts of money. And knowing that performance scales damn well with each GPU unit things will only get worse for ppl looking for a Fermi card with the 3 gb 580 being harder to find than a dodo.

I had an MSI Twin Frozr II since my 5970 died and after skipping the lame 600 range and seeing the high prices of the 700 range I decided to simply add another second hand 580 and bought another Twin Frozr II from ebay for £155.

Played Metro Last Light in Nvidia 3D in max settings, butter smooth at 1080p

Right now I've got GPGPU compute running Hashcat against WPA passwords at about 35,000 per second on both cards for a total of just over 70,000 a sec, which is pretty good considering WPA uses SHA1 4096 times per password.

(That's SHA1 286,720,000 times a second, god I love GPUs!)

Near as I can tell 580 SLI is comparable to a 780 but significantly cheaper if you buy used cards.

I might sell my EVGA GTX 580 SuperClocked SLI for 500 bucks. They have backplates and the high flow exhaust brackets installed, and they're clean and in good condition.
