GTX560ti vs GTX570

Time to shuffle some video cards around.

To be retired - 9500gt, getting replaced by GTX260. The GTX260 will be replaced by...

Either a GTX 560ti or a GTX570.

So to all of you, is the 570 and its extra 96 stream processors (along with faster other bits) worth the approx $100 price tag?

Most of the 560ti's I've been eyeing have been right around the $200 mark, while the 570s are hovering around $300.

I don't do a whole lot of gameing (work too darn much), so its main use is running cuda einstein tasks and primegrid gpu tasks for the races.

It would be going in a i5-750.

The thing about the 560ti and slower Fermis is that 1/3 of their stream processors are only used when the CUDA code is set up to run two instructions at once. So in an application like PrimeGrid, up to 1/3 of the stream processors can sit idle. This does help with display responsiveness, if it's your primary display GPU, but doesn't help with speed.

Interesting. I did not know that. The 570 doesn't suffer from that issue does it?

Here is the 570 I'm leaning towards. http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0363755

$299 after rebate.

Always a little cautious about reconditioned electronics, especially stuff with moving parts.

yeah.. it's really luck of the draw with refurb electronics. i got 2 PNY 465s and that 570 and haven't had any issues. but then you read reviews of like 10 bad reviews and 2 good ones.
