I'm currently waiting for my Asus GTX560 Ti DCUII TOP to arrive. I'll be using it with a Q9650 OC'd to 3.6GHz (can't go higher due to RAM and NB temps). How CPU limited will such a setup be? I'lll be mainly playing FPS'es.

you left out resolution but unless you are playing at 1280 then a faster cpu than what you have would make very little difference overall.

Ooops, the resolution is 1920x1200.
yeah you have nothing to worry about. Sandy Bridge would be a little bit faster in some cases but no reason to upgrade. just wait a year until Ivy Bridge comes out and/or you want the next big gpu upgrade.

I doubt there would be a significant jump in performance at 1920 from your CPU @ 3.6 to a Sandy Bridge, definitely not much. I have a 560Ti on a Q6700 @ 3.3 (so you are way ahead of me) and it was a huge improvement from the GTX 280 I had before. CPU intensive games like Civ 5, SC2 and other RTS might see a jump but I don't play those (only FPS, racing and RPG).

I upgraded from q9550 at 4.2ghz to i5 2500k at 4.8ghz and the performance increase in f1 2010 and starcraft2 is staggering. 50% or more fps increase at 1680x1050. Yes the resolution is low but this is with a much weaker 5850. From my old q6600 at 3.2ghz upgrading to the q9550 at 4.2ghz the performance gain was equally worthwhile in crysis and farcry2.
