I asked about the 7770 and a lot of yall said go with the HD 6850. So now Im asking about the GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) superclocked or the HD 6850. If these were the only 2 cards you could pick which one would it be and why?

It's funny: at this point the tables have turned, and the 7770 is cheaper than the 6850.

Anyway, if you're considering a 560 - which does look good in that benchmark if you have the PSU to handle it - also consider a 460 for less money, whose only disadvantage is a lower memory bandwidth.

Stock GTX 560 is about 10% faster than a stock 6850, at 1920x1080 at techpowerup.com's site.
These are the GTX 560's with 256bit bus's.

So pick the GTX 560 (256bit bus) over the 6850, if their priced around the same amount.
If the 560 is grossly overpriced (like 20% or higher) compaired to the 6850, pick that instead.

Those lil 6850's overclock like champs.

Yeah what Durvelle27 said... 6870 is a good alternative.

6870>560>6850

with about 10% performance differnce between each >.
So its just a matter off getting the best value, when you go looking for a card.

I'd pick the GTX 560 - better performance and Nvidia specific features (PhysX, Ambient Occlusion, Dynamic Vertical Sync). It will cost a little more though.

The GTX 560 is about equal to the 6870, so I'd go for the 560 over the 6850, but I'd rather have the 6870 over both if the price is close.

OP, how much are the prices for those 2 cards?

I'd probably get this Sapphire HD6870: $158.99 - $10 MIR - $15 OFF with code GOTHAM = $133.99

It's faster than both of the cards you are looking at and is just 5% slower than a GTX560Ti.

What's your budget anyways. For $210-220 you can get a GTX 480.

My budget is $200.....but if I have it I might be able to go a little higher. I dont know much about gpu's....so my question is why would I get an 460 or 480 if the 560 is a newer card compared to them two?(like I said I dont know much)

Thanx

Don't get GTX480 unless you can find it for $140-150 or if all you do is play BF3.

HD7850 has 2GB of VRAM and has 30%+ overclocking headroom. It will beat a GTX480 and consume nearly 1/3 the power.

For $210, MSI TwinFrozr HD7850 2GB is the best card hands down. Nothing even comes close.

With an overclock, HD7850 = GTX580.

Also, next gen games will start using more than 1.28-1.5GB of VRAM. If you are willing to spend $200, there is no reason to buy a GTX570/480.

At 1000mhz only, the HD7850 is already as fast as a GTX480. Most 7850s can overclock to 1.1-1.2ghz!!

And it consumes 160W less in gaming!!

GTX480 is worse in every way imaginable, less Videocard RAM, less overclocking headroom, hotter, louder, worse power consumption, worse idle power consumption, worse features and slower at max overclocks. Also, the resale value on GTX480 will be way worse than on HD7850.

If you game at 1080P, and want to keep your card for 2 years+, get the 7850.

I agree with Russian. If you don't mind mail in rebates, that 7850 is the card to have, especially with that aftermarket cooler.
