gtx460 hawk to 570 or 6970 or..

I current have a gtx 460 hawk edition oc'd to 860mhz core with no voltage increase, can't remember memory oc but wasn't much.. with the recent release of gtx570 and hd6970. I was wondering whether or not it will be worth it to upgrade. I mainly game @ 1920 res... some games like bfbc2/metro 2033 does have slowdowns on high settings.

How much of a performance boost would I be looking at?

I have a dual core e8400 oc to 3.6ghz. I am planning to upgrade to sandybridge next year.

If i don't buy any new videocard now, i will probably be waiting another 3-5 month before getting a new card. Do you guys think that prices will drop by then?

Yes, I think in 3-5 months I believe prices will drop.

Going from what you have now to a 570 or 6970 would probably get you about 25-33% more performance, maybe up to 45% if you overclock. Whether that's worth it is up to you, but you should get better results in Metro.

The 570 or the 6970 right now at your resolution is a wash basically. But do you plan on upgrading monitor in the future ? If so, and you want a higher res. It is without a doubt the 6970 because at higher resolutions, it is almost equal to a 580. If not, pick your poison. Nothing wrong with either.

I hate to open a can of worms but before you upgrade I would consider a quad core cpu.

Your gtx460 is about = to a gtx470 now, mabe faster.

With the proper cpu a gtx460 @ 865 should be just fine for a good while @1900x1080. Are you maxing aa?

yeah I agree because some games like Bad Company 2 are not going to improve by a single fps going with a faster card than his oced 460.

I am planning to upgrade cpu early next year.

I want to be able to max AA whenever i can.. its just some titles i take a good fps hit when i max AA.

Well if you decide you want to upgrade and may want to get rid of the gtx460 hawk, shoot me an email and tell me how much you want to sell it for if you live in the U.S.

I'd say an E8400 is good enough for gaming still, most games still only run on two cores and its a fairly high clock speed. I have the same OC on my CPU.

I'd say wait a bit, GTX 460 is still pretty good for now. But its up to you whether you think you need the upgrade.
