GTX285 vs well, everything else

This baby's got 1GB GDDR3 512-BIT, for $270, is there ANYTHING that will outperform this baby for the price? DX11 is the last thing i care about.

Yes, lots of things.
GTX470, HD5870, HD6870, GTX460 (all flavours in some circumstances, including 768MB), HD5850, HD6850.
Not all of those will beat it all the time, but the ones that don't are also much cheaper (~$200 or less), and are only slightly behind.

Also 512-bit means nothing.

199 bucks for a GTX460 1 GB GDDR5 DX 11 card that beats it on most benches..

yeh I got a 285 rotting in a drawer.

not going back from my SLI 460s

$270 is way too much.

A quick look on Newegg shows that there are 5850's, 5870's, 6850's, GTX460's, and GTX470's that are all cheaper, and they are faster. The Radeon 6870 is about $10 more and faster as well.

The GTX285 isn't a bad part, but it is a ripoff at $270.

gtx 460 of any kind isn't a competitor for gtx 285 unless you're at lower resolution and/or you oc the tar out of it. the 768 mb version is ~ gtx 275 at mid/low res and can't even hang with that at higher res.

It(gtx275) can in this game suite : @725 mhz

edit: I would wait for the 384 core gtx 560 for a replacement for a gtx 285, then a o/c version will easily beat a 285 without any fuss (heat/noise)

In Mass Effect 2 and Wolfenstein the 768MB GTX460 loses to the GTX460, but in 3 of the 5 tests, it beats it (from the GTX580 review on AT, the other tests are all DX11 cards only).
I did say in some games. In some games a stock GTX460 768MB does beat a GTX285.

Heh, the old 2900 cards had 512bit memory. But it is (slow) GDDR3 compared to much faster DDR5 on modern high-end cards.

It has a 512bit bus that means it's faster than everything, like those 1GB FX5200's they were the fastest in their day too.

270 is too much. A single 1Gb 460 beats it, about 199. I will sell my gtx285 ssc to you at 259.99 USD, and I will pay shipping.

Your such a bad salesman. You should have posted some insanely texture heavy games where the 285 beats even a 480 and touted it as the best card ever.... Then since you "don't game anymore" you are willing to take a loss and sell it for a mere 259.99 USD 🙂
