I have GTX280 SLI in my system and I'm still seeing pretty darn good perf in all my games at 1900x1080. If I go with a single card solution which is the one to go for?

I've been AFK here for some time and feel out of touch on what's the latest greatest... and wondering if now is the time to buy or is the next gen GPU around the corner?

AMD 7000 series is dropping soon, you might aswell wait if you aren't having any perfomance issues.

All depends on what games you want to play. New card will net you a DX11 upgrade, but your urge for an upgrade should be based on a necessity to play a new game, not just to keep up with the online Joneses. That gets to be pretty pricey.

Thanks, I'm thinkin Skyrim next week mainly.... obviously I'll see how it runs on my i920 and current SLI setup and then make a decision. I agree on the philosophy of if it runs my games leave it alone...

Just wondering mainly where GTX 280 sli fit in performance vs. current single cards. I'm guessing a single GTX460 will probably smoke my setup even... so if skyrim blows on my current rig... a GTX570 or ATI6950 probably be a good choice? I don't like the $500 price range of the GTX 580...

Do you have 280SLI or a 295? Your sig says 295. Either way, a single GTX460 will most definitely not smoke your setup. You would need at least a GTX570 to approximate the performance of 280SLI. It would be slightly faster than a 295. You would need a 580, which is about $450, to beat your current setup, and it wouldn't be by much, it would just avoid needing to use SLI.

The most bang for the buck in an upgrade (rather than sidegrade or downgrade) would be 460SLI, but it's probably not your best option at this point, since even it wouldn't provide a huge increase. Just wait it out, and of course see how Skyrim runs. It will probably be fine on that setup.

I think the main thing you'll be upgrading here is DX11 compatibility... as far as how much impact that has on your gaming I'd say differs from game to game.
