GTX275 is running as PCI-E x8

I can't believe when I noticed my EVGA GTX275 is running as x8 instead of x16 even though that is the only PCI-E device. I knew something was not right. It has to be the video card or the motherboard. After plugging the GTX275 in my backup PC, it detected at x2. Pop in 2 other video cards in my EVGA motheboard and they were detected fine at x16. I already got the authorization from EVGA for the RMA.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

I didn't mean it by performance wise. I was referring to CPU-Z and Nvidia system information reporting the video card establishing @ x8 only.

So you knew something was not right when CPU-z told you something was not right?

I have 2 software that confirmed the x8 and the value changed to x16 when I swap in 2 different video cards. If you don't trust that, what else would you to validate? That was enough for EVGA tech support.

Try other slots on your board

1) I don't have room in the case to try the other slots.
2) The GTX275 has the same issue, actually worse, in my backup computer
3) I put in 2 other video cards in the main system and it detected as x16 fine
4) No damage or dirt in any of the contact pins in the GTX275

Latest BIOS and first PCI-E slot at the top. It's not the motheboard, I tried 2 other video cards already with no problem.

what could be wrong with a video card to make it do that?

Faulty PCI-E connector pins maybe? Aren't x8 slots about 3/4ths and long as x16? So if you covered up or disconnected the gold contacts beyond those that would fit in the x8 slot, it wouldn't work in x16 mode.

Just a guess.
