If you game at 1680x1050 with max aa and af and play games like COD5 and BF2 as well as GRID and Obilvion what card would be the better choice

1. GTX260 with 216 shaders

or

2. 4870 1 GB

Any thoughts.......

What about these new drivers from nvidia the 180 series I heard that those are supposed to make the 260 much better in every game then the 4870, is that true?

Not every game, but the majority of games on the current drivers the 216 trails behind the 4870, with the reported improvements so far, they even out and sometimes best the 4870 with the new drivers.

With the new drivers coming which makes the Core 216 even a little faster, I would go that route.

They're going to perform similar given future driver updates - go with whatever's cheaper IMO.

Yea, well... ATI cards doesnt have great warranties, and step-up.

You know, I cant even believe I just typed that. Since for 13 years I have been an ATI only fan.

This is the truth. Big bang blang drivers from Nvidia will bring performance improvements, but so will the next Ati hot fixes and the next Catalyst and so on. I find the GTX 260 Core 216 and ATi 4870 1 gb to be as close as it can possibly be in terms of performance. This is competition at its best. Two totally different GPUs being, so close in games, is a rare view.
I would also buy which one is cheaper. There is no clear winner here.
