Right, so the GTX 280 once overclocked extends performance beyond the 260 in games that actually require it, like Crysis. Same for the 4870X2 and GTX 295, which again, backs my point that if you don't think the GTX 280 is worth it over a GTX 280, you certainly won't notice the difference from a 295 or 4870X2, except for maybe Crysis.

I see you're a 280 owner. Don't take it so hard, it's pretty well known there is not much difference between the 260 and 280. Eeesh, relax.
Oh I'm not taking it hard, some people do notice the difference from a 15-20% drop in frame rates. ;)

Meh I would never use Crysis as an example for a 260 to 280 comparison, I'm running 285 SSC SLI and I still have the occasional stutter (not microstutter...real stutter) in games.

$100 would be a 45% increase in price.
Is the GTX 280 45% faster? No.

Therefore, I would not make the upgrade on the basis of value.

Definitely not worth it. Wait for the 4890 to come out, then do it if you must.

ATI should be launching their new RV790 card soon and that might drive down the prices on the GTX285. Then your Step-up might be cheap enough to make it worth your while. I'm thinking about doing the same thing.
