This has to be a driver problem. And it seems to happen with NV cards, mostly.

When Win10 installed my default NV driver package, it seems to have defaulted to 4K UHD 30Hz, but this display is capable of 60Hz, 4:2:0 Chroma sub-sampling.

But if I go into NVidia Control Panel, and set those parameters, the mouse cursor turns half-sized, vertically, like it's compressed.

It did it with both the default Win10 drivers, and the newest NV drivers I just downloaded tonight.

What's going on here?

Well, I was using the "High Contrast", "Mouse", and then selecting the second and then the third icon. So, already using an enlarged and higher-contrast mouse cursor.

Anyways, it was still stunted, even with the newest NV drivers, so I installed 1709 (over 1607). It reset the cursor back to normal, and then I re-selected the high contrast cursor, and NOW IT'S WORKING. So strange.

Since I use Nvidia GPUs and I am planning on getting a 4K display, I'm wondering if I will be problems with the mouse pointer on Linux?

Later today I plan on picking up a EVGA GTX1060 3GB card to drive the Acer ET430K, and maybe also the Samsung UN43MU6290. Both are supposed capable of 4K60 so we'll see.

So I got the card and installed it. But I have to say what I experienced on checkout was nothing like I imagined. First the graphics card isles looked like a murder scene with very little cards left. Even those normally stored inside a locked cabinet were hit hard. As the CSR helped me to find the card I was looking for he said they had been selling cards like gangbusters. I mention the whole crypto-currancy thing and he smiled and said that was it.

Anyway, as I walked over to checkout the register nearest me was buying US$6,000 in video cards. All of them 1080 cards. My wife commented at "He spent over six thousand dollars!?!" and I said, "yeah, and he only bought video cards," referring what I mentioned to her earlier in my shopping troubles because of the whole crypto$$$ scene. But wait, that wasn't the only youngin' buying video cards. Of the half dozen registers open half of them had people buying multiple cards and nothing else.

Serious, what the heck? I walked up to checkout and said, "I feel not worthy considering I'm spending only a couple hundred dollars." Cashier laughed but said nothing.

Rock-a-bye baby, in the treetop
When the wind blows, the cradle will rock
When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall
And down will come baby, cradle and all
