Currently choosing between this 3 (best price where I live)
Zotac GTX 970 (ZT-90101-10P) for $315
Zotac GTX 970 AMP! Omega Core for $367
Sapphire R9 390 Nitro for $350

1. Is the AMP! version worth the $50 price difference? Currently I'm thinking the answer is no.
2. 390 vs 970? I'm still flip flopping between the 2. The 970 seems to be more efficient while the 390 is slightly faster (from what I've read).

Edit:

If I were you, I'd purchase the 390 for the following reasons:

- It's slightly faster
- 8GB of ram vs the 970's 3.5GB
- Better suited for DX12 games.

The 390 is slightly faster if we include lots of older games. In modern games it is a lot faster.

Note that 390 performance = R290X on these charts.

And in the latest Tomb Raider, the 390 is on par with the 980:

970 can't even play Very High textures due to its 3.5GB vram without stutters.

http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/gu...guide#rise-of-the-tomb-raider-texture-quality

Those with 4GB GPUs are recommended to use High as VRAM stuttering can be observed on Very High.

They just updated the game, had to include a warning message for gamers when selecting Very High textures due to all the tears on their forums from 970 owners stuttering.

The 970 was made for yesterday's games unfortunately, it's not going to look good going forward, similar to the Kepler GTX 780's fate.

the GTX 970 while a good card, it's seeing it's performance drop in the latest games compared to the 290, a GPU it used to beat more often than not. The 390 is clearly the better bet.

Flip a coin.

Here is my bolded statement to say you should flip a coin and take whatever is cheapest.

Still rocking my 290x custom water cooled. I would get a 390 and wont look back.

I actually had a 390 and 970 briefly (impulse buy at best buy). The 390 was smoother in the games I play but was a wash vs my current 290x oc to 1100
