Hello guys , its my first post . I am in a serious trouble, I was going to buy a gtx 970 from amazon or newegg or ncix or overclockers.co.uk for 370-380 dollars but none of them has it in stock for past 1 week So i decided to check it in Ebay and in ebay it cost 440 Dollars and on the same price just few bucks costlier i can get an Asus gtx 780 ti for 480 dollars . So What do you guys prefer ? Which of them is faster and is it worth going for gtx 970 for its new features over a gtx 780 ti? Power consumption or heat is not a problem for me , Nor i am going to overclock . Thanks in Advance .

970. more vram and better directx support is gonna ultimately make that a much better investment.

Newegg also has 780ti classifieds for like $430 right now

When the CF first came out meager OC of 7% (1090mhz) netted a 6% gain and a 19% gain over the vanillia 780 TI.

http://tpucdn.com/reviews/EVGA/GT...erf_oc.gif
780 TI stock 129.9 FPS
780 TI CF 149 FPS
780 TI CF with 7 % OC 159 FPS

Then look at the same sites 980 numbers.
980 Stock 130.8 FPS
980 SLI Stock 198 FPS
http://tpucdn.com/reviews/NVIDIA/...0_1080.gif

Considering many people get 1300+ out of a 780ti CF that would put a single cards bench right at the 980 SLI at stock.

Finally same bench for 980 with a 20% OC from same site (do notice they use the vanilla 780 TI stock in the comparison even though they got 159 FPS from the CF with 7% OC 8 months ago)
980 20% OC 149.9 FPS.

http://tpucdn.com/reviews/NVIDIA/...erf_oc.gif

So a real chart would look like this. Also remember the 700 series scores are on old drivers. Not much but likely some % would be added if ran again.
780 TI stock 129.9 FPS
980 Stock 130.8 FPS
780 TI CF stock 149 FPS
980 20% OC 149.9 FPS
780 TI 7% OC 159 FPS
980 SLI Stock 198 FPS

If you're only concerned with the fastest choice this is your best choice here. Classifieds are binned and you generally can expect at least 1200 on the core without playing with the custom volts over 1.21.

1300MHz 780Ti = 1525MHz GTX 980

Not all stock 980s can hit that speed, mine is only stable to 1466MHz before hard crashing/grey screens so if you get lucky on a 780 Ti Classified that can hit 1300MHz in the $400 range its a way better deal than a $550 GTX 980.

I think the 970s are the better choice. The performance is close but also you'll have the benefit of having more DX features being supported, performance drivers in the near future and a far better video output selection (if you happen to get the reference cards.. if they exist?). And perhaps an ability to SLi for the cheap later down the road. Having many options is always good.

^This^ If you can wait until some are in stock it will be worth your while. Even though the 780TI is technically slightly faster in most things, the 970 will be faster with games that feature Voxel Global illumination which is similar to ray tracing, giving much more realistic reflections and lighting. It's apparently a feature in the Unreal 4 engine amongst other things so expect some of those games to take advantage of it.

the 780 ti is a faster card (but not much without OC), the only thing is VRAM, if the game uses more than 3 and less than 4 it could be a clear win for the 970, and there is power usage, if you care about it...

I would choose the 970 because it normally is much cheaper.

OP the following shows specs and pricing of a vanilla EVGA 780ti, but pics clearly show a classified:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814487072

If this is a 780Ti Classy, there's your choice. I looked at all the pics, it shows a classy with the dual bios switch near the 8-pin power connections. Newegg is also listing what they're actually calling a "Dual Classified" for $649. I've seen manufacturers load up a stock vanilla bios on both A and B bios and sell the cards at a lower price. I'm betting that's the case with the card I listed.

I'm betting the card has two bios with stock bios loaded on both regular and LN2 switch settings. A great, great card for the money. It's huge though, check specs of the Classy to insure fit. Grab one and use Precision to overclock it. You'd need a voltage bump to make it shine, I created two options, and especially like the 1.21v version:

Check out the cooler on this card, it's top notch:

970 is a safer choice(VRAM, toys, DX12 features, future support), but classy is a real nice card, faster, great OC

hmm... looks like a tie. then again if you throw a price in equation 970 wins for me

Nvidia really cluttered their lineup with the new Maxwell 970 and 980. The performance steps are all sub 10% between the old and new blurring the lines to the point your card's individual boost may be the deciding factor in what is the fastest. Computerbase.de uses good charts, their 780ti 'Max' is an 1150 core 780ti, a Classified 780ti will hit that clock easily and making use of the voltage tool can get up to 1300+.

The 970 is $100 cheaper than that $430 780ti Classified and I'm not sure it's worth $100 more. In my personal testing comparing a 970 and 780ti both overclocked to their limits, the 780ti is 20% faster than a 970 at my resolution.

Unless you are interested in gsync which is a great feature, I wouldn't worry too much about any other features unless they interest you. The new features historically see very little use and won't make much difference in how you'll wind up playing your games.
