I recently bought (and returned) the 180Hz G-Sync monitor for my GTX 970. Getting the required frame rate wasn't a problem as long as you're willing to forego ultra settings.
I wanted to get 180fps locked in as often as possible, so I had to reduce settings to hit that target. Because it was a G-Sync monitor, it eliminates judder and tearing, BUT framerate dips are still very noticeable even when dropping from 180fps to 140fps.Could you expand a little? Do you mean the fps was too low because of the refresh rate on the monitor ? If you reduce the refresh rate, the fps would increase ? What do you mean by the required framerate ?

No, I returned the monitors due to poor picture quality. I was happy with the performance otherwise.Ok, The drop in fps which you noticed resulted from the relatively low powered 970 , not G-Sync, so you returned the monitor, presumably getting a monitor with a lower refresh rate so the 970 could match it with game fps.
