GTX 950 same launch window as Nano?

Hmm... Nvidia doing a release in the same launch window as Nano, now, where have we seen that before? 😉

We know this isn't aimed at the Nano performance wise, but, it is always nice to have more options to buy. 🙂

950 is mostly aimed at F2P/Action RPG/RTS crowd and people who don't wanna pay $200 for a HDMI 2.0/Hardware HEVC HTPC card (aka 960) whereas the Nano is more of a GTX 980 competitor.

960 sales are probably dropping as far as timing with an AMD launch of Nano I don't think it's related at all since AMD basically paper launched multiple SKUs in the last few weeks.

GTX 950 should be a $150 and bellow card, I've been saying that the GTX 960 should have been in the $160-170 region and the GTX 950 with its performance compared to the 660TI and 760 should be around $130, but as always with Nvidia they do release really overpriced products!

As far as the Nano its designed to compete with the GTX 980 and beat it and have lower price at the same time.

The GTX 980 still goes for $550 surprisingly even though the Fury blows it out of the water for $550 as well, but the Nano would cost around $450 and basically beat the 980 and be $100 dollars cheaper and come in a very small factor.

I like the look of the nano but the jury is still out where it will line up with the bigger cards in the series, As far as the 950 if it's priced right then that is cool but just where is it's price point

See, if the price is right and Nvidia bundles it with MGS:V, I'd get it for a dedicated PhysX card and sell off my GTX 680 since I'm sure for PhysX both will be relatively similar and I'll assume the 950 will use half or 66% of the power a GTX 680 would use.

yes... 750 ti is maxwell 1 and with 640 cuda cores, this GPU is maxwell 2 and with 768...
(960 is 1024)

by the GPU name it's just the same GPU as the 960 with stuff disabled

in any case, the 950 is probably a competitor to the r7 370 (but a lot more efficient since that card is old GCN 1.0), nothing to do with Nano.

one can hope the 950 will be the new 150 dollars gpu

That makes me wonder if those specs are anything more than pure speculation (pun intended).

The 960 requires a 6-pin per Nvidia specs, with some OC / OCer models taking an 8-pin.

I would be the 950 / 950 Ti would be split with a lower model taking nothing and the Ti taking a 6-pin. That could be due to clock differences or differeing SPs like the current 750 / 750 Ti. The 8-pin is clearly incorrect though.

Lol.. Yay I can buy a gtx 950 I'm so excited. It'll be pretty crazy to see how many people on this forum will be rocking gtx 950s since we can actually buy them over that silly paper launch fury products that are always out of stock.

750/TI does not have the same feature set. There will definitely be a customer base that wants a Maxwell 2 over a Maxwell 1.

Maxwell 2.1 (960 version) has some significant advantages over 1.

The short list from the spec sheet and the 960's capabilities :

1: Delta color compression, reduces memory bandwidth usage 10-40%

2: HDMI 2.0

3: HEVC 4K decode of h.265 video in hardware

4: 7Ghz memory bus speed vs 5.4Ghz for Maxwell v1 (20% increase)

5: 10% more SPs than a 750Ti

6: 10-20% higher core clock on base / reference models

These $100-$200 cards are the lifeblood of the GPU makers and this card looks to me like it would pulverize an r7 370 while providing HDMI 2.0 and h.265 decode to boot. If the 750/750 Ti also move down into the sub $100 range it'll make just about every other competing card look very weak.

Certainly true, the 750 would have to be updated with additional features before it could be a true "940".

Hey, don't get me wrong, I like both lines and may likely buy one or the other. 😉 The 750 was beyond perfect for my kid's low-PSU Dell unit and absolutely perfect for the low-profile market!

I wouldn't be surprised to see the 750Ti drop to $99, and the 750 go away. Yields on a 148 mm^2 chip on the 28nm process are high enough that there's likely little need to have salvage parts at this point.

They could always rebrand the 750Ti as the GT 940 (omitting the "X" would indicate its reduced feature set).

By the time 16/14nm FINFET GPUs launch we might see Nvidia closer to 85-90% market share.

I dont think Amd is going to regret it, Im honestly impressed that they can still be competitive with such old chips in comparison to nvidia, allows them to conserve cash until 16nm is ready, I also strongly disagree in your thinking that Amd "deserves this".
