GTX 950 or GTX 960

I currently have a GTX 960 that was worked great for me and the games I play. I am a very light gamer however lately I have been getting back into LoL and it is the game I play the most at the moment. I was thinking of selling my 960 to get a 950 since nvidia seems to market it towards moba gamers. I guess my question is, is how much of a performance hit would I take if i went from a 960 to a 950?

Don't sell it for a 950. The 950 costs way too much, used 960's sell for too low, and you would just end up eating a loss for Absolutely no reason. Keep what you have.

I take it you're a beginner with PC gaming then?

No point in selling a 960 for a 950 for LoL. If you want to save some $, then selling a 960 for a $70-80 GTX750 could make sense. LoL isn't demanding at all.

GTX950 vs. GTX750Ti

It's actually possible to play it at > 90 FPS at 4K with a card like a GTX750Ti. That means even a GTX750 would be overkill for this game at 1080P.

In other words, GTX960 or even a 950 is total overkill for this title. Personally I would just keep your 960 if you are considering moving to a 950 since that's just a waste of $ and doesn't accomplish much -- it neither saves you much $, nor provides more performance.

The GTX950 is a slightly crippled GTX960, so anything a 950 can do, a 960 can do as well, but better since both are based on the GM206. The MOBA stuff for a GTX 950 is just a theme for the card to get it to sell.

Thanks for all your suggestions, I don't play that many demanding games and I think I will stick with the 960. Would the same features that the 950 has with moba games be available to the other gtx 900 line up via driver update or is that feature only specific to the 950?

The only thing that the 950/960 have on 750/970/980/TiX is some new video decode feature.

There is no such thing. The MOBA aspect of 950 is just marketing. There are no special gaming features in a 950 compared to say a 750Ti or 960 or a 980Ti, etc. NV is just marketing 950 as an entry level 9xx series card for this genre of games which tend to be not very GPU demanding. For example, if you had purchased a GTX760/680/770 2GB, your gaming experience wouldn't have been any worse.

The MOBA "feature" that was advertised is just having the Geforce Experience optimization profile set "maximum pre-rendered frames" to 1 to minimize input latency.

You can do this yourself in the Nvidia control panel and making a profile for LoL if you are not using Geforce Experience or it isn't using that profile for your GTX 960.
