GTX 780 upgrade / SLI won't boot normally

Hi,

I have recently bought myself two GTX 780's as an upgrade from my 2x GTX 280's. I had to buy a new power supply (1050W) to cope. Anyway, I installed the PSU and wired it all up, but tested it with my old graphics cards first to see if everything was fine. It loaded and booted into windows fine. I then placed one of the GTX 780's in using the same 8 and 6pin connectors, but when I press the on button, it displays a small white cursor in the top left and the letters B2 in the bottom right. After about 2 minutes, that disappears and a flashing cursor appears in the top right which just stays there.

I have tried using the other card, but it gives me exactly the same thing. This leads me to think there is nothing wrong hardware wise, but something else? My BIOS is the latest version but I can't think of what could be wrong. Again, if I slot my old graphics cards back in they work fine. My current system specs are:

MSI Z68A-GD65 (G3), Intel Z68, S 11
8GB (2x4GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance
Intel Core i7 2600K Unlocked S1155
2x 3GB Gigabyte GTX 780 OC, 28nm, PCIe
1050W XFX Black Edition P1-1050-BFU

I am just fishing for ideas at the moment before giving it another try tonight. The only thing I can think of is that the two connectors on top of the cards weren't plugged in fully, but given that I tried it multiple times that seems unlikely.

Thanks

Assuming everything is hooked up right (check to see that cards are seated properly, connectors, etc...) it sounds like a mobo incompatibility.

I'll check again tonight with the seating / connectors etc, but a mobo imcompatibility? I'm certainly open to that suggestion, but why would they be incompatible? It supports SLI, it has two slots which are PCI-E x16 and is using the Z68 architecture. How would they not work? Is this incompatibility manufacturer specific?

I you put your old card back in would it work now?
Yep, my machine at the moment is running with the old cards. With the new ones it doesn't work.

Have you checked MSI for a BIOS update for the motherboard, or if there are any known issues with Kepler cards in this specific model?

As a follow on, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with running a GTX 780 on the board as this person seems to have a card running on the same mobo:

@stahlhart - BIOS is up to date using their own utility. I'll check with msi regarding incompatibilities

[EDIT] Ok, I think I have found something. For future reference, I came across the following:

which seems to match the issue I am getting. Thanks all
