GTX 780 Lightning out of stock everywhere?

Did MSI stop producing the GTX 780 Lightning? I was planning to pick up a couple up today but I find they've been delisted from search on Newegg (although if I go to a bookmarked listing it shows out of stock), they're not listed on Amazon, ShopBLT, etc. either. They show backordered on NCIX USA.

Does anybody know where they are available for purchase? I waited to get my bonus so I wouldn't take such a hit picking them up, but was really hoping to get a couple. If all else fails I guess I'll get the EVGA Classified, but the Lightning seemed to be a much better card.

Thanks.

They should overclock similarly. I also don't think classifieds have used elpida in awhile. The real difference is on air the lightning cooler performs better and is quieter.

I'm not going to be air cooling them. I have a piece of 110 copper plate that is 1/8" thick, and I'm going to have it CNC machined to match so I can bolt it up with the backplate with the coldplate over the GPU using the standard X pattern bolts. I'm going to fab my own mounting bracket for the waterblock. I'm going to use two Corsair H80s to cool the GPUs.

Just flash them with a custom bios (prob skynets) and make sure the vrm's are cooled properly.

If you give me a day or two I can check about the status of the 780L - If you are looking for the 780 Ti Lightning you will not find it anywhere. Where you talking about the standard 780L?

I was referring to the normal non-Ti 780 Lightning. I went ahead and ordered the Classifieds, but may sell them when they arrive and get the Lightning, depends on what sort of memory is on the Classifieds and how well they perform when I do my initial testing. I'm trying to get at least 1200MHz out of both cards on the core clock, we'll see what I can end up doing with the memory.

As far as i'm aware the lightning is a limited edition SKU. At least, I recall the 580 and 680 lightnings being like this. Once they're gone they're generally gone, but I suppose you could ask MSI on facebook or something.

I like the lightning card design a lot, but I think the classified is honestly the better bet at this point. If you're into over-voltage and all of that jazz, you can do it on the lightning with some workarounds but it is easier with the classified. Also, the classy was on sale last week for 470$, I was super tempted although I already have 780s (not the classified though). Not sure if that sale is still going, I saw on slickdeals a few days ago.

1200 Mhz is cake walk for the classys. Even majority of reference 780s hit 1200mhz.

As long you get Hynix/ Samsung memory, memory OC shouldn't be an issue.

I ordered a classy too & judging from my previous 780 FTW, I ve got high hopes for this one.

What deal..??
I dont think there was any deal on the classy last week.

It was the Gigabyte referenence for $480.

Link the deal if you have time please.

I already said it was on slickdeals. Or would you like me to google slickdeals for you. Anyway, kidding aside, the deal is dead and I mis-read the price: it was 496$ , not 469$. So my mistake, I thought it was 470 (or 469$), but was actually 496$. Still an excellent deal for that card, though.

edit: actually I just tried the promo code on newegg and the deal is still alive. 496$ after MIR and includes AC IV. Which you can sell the gamecode of course. Not a terrible deal IMO.

I already knew about the $496
deal because I ordered using that deal but earlier when you said $470, I thought there was a better deal & I searched on SD & couldn't find it, thats why I asked you for the link.

Now its alright since you meant $496 instead of $469 which I already know about.

That's good to know. I want to see how far I can push them with better cooler than you get from the ACX, but I'll be happy with 1200 on both. If I can get 1300 on both stable, that'd be even better. Since I'm doing SLI though, I have to make sure both cards can handle whatever I do.

EDIT: They've arrived... apparently they don't come with backplates so that was another $40 to get backplates for both. Ordered the backplates, new PSU gets here tomorrow and when the backplates arrive on Friday I'll fire everything up and see how it goes. It'll probably be another week before I can get the plates cut though.
