GTX 780 and Corsair HX 520?

Hi guys!

I'm a few generations behind in my GPU. I currently have a GTX 460, and it's fine for most things. However, I'm anticipating getting a 2560x1440 27" display soon, and am already forced to play most new games on medium settings, so I think a heavy upgrade is in order.

The GTX 780 looks pretty badass. It's more expensive than I'd like, but I'm definitely contemplating purchasing it. The key question is if AMD has something good in the works soon - then I might wait.

In any case, the GTX 780 has a 250w TDP, and I imagine an AMD card in the same tier will be comparable. To that end, I need to figure out whether my PSU will be adequate. As you will see in my sig, I'm using a Corsair HX 520, which has served me well for many years.

Can I reasonably accept this to handle the load of my system? I've got an i7 2600k, 2 SSDs, 3 mech drives, and a DVDRW. I don't want to push it, so if this is even borderline I'll totally upgrade. What do you guys think?

If I do need to upgrade, any recommendations? I definitely want something quiet, high quality, and modular. The HX520 is totally ideal from this perspective, so I'd want something similar - just with higher wattage. Money isn't a huge deal, but I'd like to keep it between $100 and $150 if at all possible.

The $650 for a GTX 780 is bad enough, but I've never had a high end GPU before, and always bought the mid range $150 - $250 cards. This time I'm chalking things up to YOLO and going for it.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

If you don't over clock you should be ok. A new PS should be on your eventual list however. Older PS don't last forever and begin to decline (that's my biggest worry).

Generally for the safety of the components, if your going to spend $650 for a GTX 780, its a wise investment to purchase a new PS with a little headroom to protect all of your components.

You generally don't want to press your luck with a new purchase like that.

The AMD Radeon HD 8000 series won't be out until October at the earliest.

A 500w PSU can power a gtx Titan easily enough, this should be 10-30w less than the Titan, so all should be more than fine, you will have 50w+ of headroom I'd estimate.
