The performance jump from 7850 to the GTX 760 won't be that much. Just saying.
If you want a bigger jump I'd say crossfiring your 7850. But that would mean a new PSU as well.
I have the 1GB HD 7850 and will be picking up a Korean 1440P monitor very soon so I need another gig of Vram anyway so I must upgrade to a new GPU and CF might still have some scalling issues etc. Plus my motherboard only does CF x16/x4 so that will almost definatly cause stuttering even if microstuttering in CF is a non issiue.

For a new monitor at 1440p, I would recomend getting a 7950 level of performance AT LEAST. 7950 Crossfire would be a good one, or 760 SLI or a 770/780/7970.

Also, check your BIOS options, there should be a way to do 8x 8x, which will work fine at PCIE 3. As for Crossfire in general, I hear it is great now with 13.8

Sounds good and yes I think i will end up with an HD 7950 in my rig pretty soon. I don't think PCI -E 3.0 has any effect on todays GPUs as PCI - E 2.0 does not even bottle neck an HD 7990 or GTX 690. It would be good I agree to get the PCI-E bandwidth evened out though but i am not sure how to check as i have updated the mobo BIOS to the latest which upgraded the chipset.

Really the only way to be sure is to look through your Manual/BIOS options and see if there is an option. There might even be an unofficial way to do it that someone on the manufacturer forums may have found.

670 and 680 prices have dropped now, you will get similar/better performance for less.

Not sure how much they are in America but over here in England they've dropped the 670 to about £190
