I've been looking to buy a used GTX 670 so I can run it in SLI with my current one. One of my concerns is that I have a mATX board and mATX case, which will not allow for great airflow for the sandwiched cards.

I have a couple of other options:

1. Wait until I can find a used GTX 670 4GB for ~$270

2. Get a R9 290 + Accelero hybrid for ~$600 and sell my GTX 670 for ~$270, so total price would be $330.

3. get powercolor 7990 for ~$615 and sell GTX 670 for $270, so total cost would be $345

What would you do?

(system specs is in my sig)

I would sell 670 and get a single 780.
In fact that's what I'm doing for my mATX build at this moment.

nah, the 780 would cost more than I can but the GTX 690 for, and the 690 is faster in most scenarios.

It looks like the 780ti may match the 690. Did the 690 ever get a price reduction? I don't think it did in the states, and it may not be a terrible idea to wait for 780ti benchmarks. Plus, you'll have 3GB of VRAM as opposed to 2..

Hasn't dropped in price to my knowledge but we are getting ready to go into holiday sales time so there may be some bargains in that respect.

It's not priced reduced as new, but since I'm buying it used I'm hoping to get a good price.

If you can get it such that it ends up costing the same as the 670 you would be getting then its a decent deal because the 690 performs more like 2x 680's not 2x 670's.

You bought a 670 that dumps its heat into the case, great for a single card but bad for running multiple cards. You definitely don't want to sandwich that card, you should get the 690 or a pair of reference blower type cards instead.

So I've just moved my system to a corsair 550D case installed a new SSD and harddrive and still wondering what will be the best route. These are my current options.

(The prices are what they cost in Denmark)

1. Wait until I can find a used GTX 670 4GB for ~$270

2. Get a R9 290 + Accelero hybrid for ~$600 and sell my GTX 670 for ~$270, so total price would be $330.

Another option just opened a powercolor 7990 for ~$615.

So now my options are:

Anyone has some thoughts on this?

Santa came early this year, and apparently also twice.

Bought Samsung EVO 500GB, 3TB haddrive + corsair 550D last week.

Now he's bringing me a 7990 + Corsair AX860 :D

We can't speculate on what you'd get for your card in the used market, but as for the new cards, you're looking at very different solutions. The 7990 is clearly faster than the 290, and a bit faster than a 690 or 670SLI. You just need to figure out what you're trying to gain here. Pure performance or a simpler setup (one gpu).

Also, just to be clear, your cpu will absolutely bottleneck all of these solutions in a number of games.

The 7990 is brand new, and since it's mATX board then it will actually fit my needs better than two cards in SLI.

I know my CPU will be somewhat limiting, but it will have to last until next year where I plan to get a Haswell-E setup.
