Gtx 690 (obsolete yet?)

I have a quick question on whether the gtx 690 is relevant anymore? 680 sli and 670 sli already nip it but has the 660 ti made it more a waste? I haven't seen any direct comparisons with 660ti sli vs. gtx 690. There are some benefits such as a good cooler etc. but you know that, I'm just curious if it's ridiculously overpriced due to the 660 ti in sli/tri fire now.

I'm not wondering about retail price, more about how the 660 ti (and possibly 670) have made it less relevant, if it ever was.

not its not and also i wouldn't think the GTX 660 Ti affected anything as it barely keeps up with the GTX 670 ?

While you're right about SLI'd GTX 670s being just a smidge slower than a 690, in SLI, the GTX 660ti really starts to lag behind.

Overclocking a 690 doesn't get you very far. You can overclock a pair of 670s and beat a 690 easily.

Agreed. I owned a 690 briefly and while my first impression was very very positivie, after using it for a couple of weeks some truths became apparent. I did a stress test in 3dmark11 thinking OCing would be a breeze, and while I was able to do several 3dmark11 runs that gave me a good first impression - later I learned how wrong I was. OCing it was a nightmare, you will have trouble overclocking it by any reasonable amount for more than 10-15 minutes (before throttling kicks in). Power throttle on the 690 is pretty ridiculous as well, it kicks in very fast. The chips get hot as well. Easily 80C+ on both GPUs if you attempt any sort of overclock.

With all that said the 690 is an awesome card, just don't plan on overclocking. 670SLI is a better deal if you want to overclock, and cheaper...... Especially if you can get the 350$ deal on 670s still, thats a heck of a deal. I'm not sure if the galaxy 670 is still going for 330$ but if it is ... that is the hands down best performance for the $ you can get.
