New tech is so tempting. Considering how hard to find the 680s are, I have been able to order 3 at different times...

Well each time after ordering, I ended up cancelling because I cant seem to make up my mind. Sometimes it is debate between 680 vs 7970; other times it is getting a vanilla 680 vs getting one with higher clocks and third time it was paying over msrp for a 680.

I am waiting stock to be plentiful before I decide if I want to buy or not. I'm currently running a 5850. I don't have the time to keep checking sites an doing impulse buys.

Hahaha, I did the same thing last night when I was purchasing a case. I have cancelled with newegg about 4 times in a row... I hope they refund my charges lol. I am glad I am not the only one who get these impulses.

What case did you decide on?

I am getting a replacement Carbide 500R white. My first one that was shipped to me was defective. Amazon is overnighting me a replacement. Corsair seems to have some serious quality check issues but this case is absolutely perfect for my needs and I want it lol.

Amazon is truly amazing especially with 3 dollar overnight shipping for prime customers

I found that newegg restocks between 1030-11am and 430-5pm central time pretty much daily.

I saw an asus 680 and evga 680 on newegg yesterday but i'm tapped out till friday

You'll get one but I think you might like playing with a 7970 a little better, for overclocking at least. I see a lot of the reference 680s are !@#$% for overclocking because of the 4 phase VRMs.

Yep these cards probably won't have the long term longevity if you are trying to shoot to the moon in overclocks.

They are starting to make nonreference versions but they are very hard to get as of now. The reference cards are still hard to get too. I just got a Sapphire Dual-X 7970 for $400, and I'm not going to look back :)

Its a good thing because you will be in back with the 680 in front. Nothing to look at.

Yea the 4 phase VRM kinda blows, but I still get nearly 1300MHz out of it lol. I will also be buying an Asus DCU II 680 the minute they're available and slapping my water block on it. 10 phase GPU VRM and a CHiL 8318 clock/voltage controller. Look at the sexiness:

ok I think I finally found the card I wanted. The EVGA 680 came in stock for 499 and I had a 10% off coupon at newegg, so got it 480. I was really leaning towards evga for the stepup program and getting it for under msrp really helped :)

What exactly do you think you're going to step up to, to make step up worthwhile?

Don't get your hopes up, 590's were never part of step up, no reason a 690 will be.

From their site:
Graphics Cards

EVGA will only release reference versions of its products, NVIDIA reference spec and clock, to the Step-Up program.
Step-Up is limited to pre-approved graphics cards only and can only be used for exchange to a different and higher performing GPU.
Products known to have a limited availability will not be made available to the Step-Up program. (Limited availability determined by EVGA.)
Customers who received their EVGA graphics card as part of a complete computer system are not eligible - except for those listed on our approved system vendor list.
Graphics Cards Examples:

GTX 460 → GTX 580: YES (Upgraded GPU)
GTX 460 768MB → GTX 460 1GB: NO (Same GPU)
GTX 570 → GTX 480: NO (Must be GPU upgrade)

590's were limited quantities and that was the main reason for not being part of the program. Anyway though, it's not going to happen man.
