gtx 670ftw questions

hello

I just got my gtx 670 yesterday and i have some questions. Are my core/memory clocks supposed to be fluctuating as shown in the follow images.

diablo 3 while recording with fraps(no issues like with wow)

I don't think i ever really noticed this when I had my 560ti

my other question or concern even is that when raiding(in wow) i could record during combat at a very smooth 60fps with a 560ti. However, now with the new card about every minute i'll dip to around 30ish fps and then 2-3 seconds later go back to 60. While looking at afterburner I saw dips from around 50% gpu usage to around 20 and then 2-3 seconds later would go back to around 50%; these dips also showed on the power percent graph. This issue is only present when frapsing/recording.

I have literally only change the graphics card, thats it, and i've been using an ssd(with wow and fraps on it) and recording to a 500gb WD black for over 2 years with 0 issues. I dont know if this is the card down clocking or something with the boost technology but any insight on this would be fantastic.

my only other question is, why isnt the boost 100% when gaming or even why do clocks go down and up so much, isnt this a performance loss?

thanks

HoN is not intensive so a powerful card like GTX 670 will downclock to 2D mode at times. As long as you're still getting 60 fps with vsync, it's all good.

BL2 is more intensive, thus the clock speeds also stay higher than in HoN. It seems there is one memory clock for full 3D mode, while the GPU clock varies according to base clock and boost clock. I think the boost clock is applied only when the card's power management allows it (TDP limiter).

If you experience problems due to clocks fluctuating between 2D and 3D in less intensive games, you can use Inspector to force full 3D clocks, AFAIK.

makes sense, I also read a thread on the evga forums about having your boost 100% of the time during gaming and then being able to set it to regular speeds during idle.

Im still not sure whats with the recording in wow, considering all i did was upgrade a graphics card. Why this would negatively impact me is beyond my imagination.

here is an 8 minute graph/log of the spikes, occurring literally every 55-60 seconds and the gpu usage from 55-56% down to exactly 22% and then up again. You can also notice the power percent dipping as well. Since fraps files are generally around 57+ seconds long, and viewing all my videos starting with choppy fps, this cant be a coincidence. However, how would changing a graphics card, to a substantially better one at that, mess this up?
