I have read all the advantages between a 7950 / 7970 and a GTX 670/ 680 but I at leaning on the edge of getting a 670/680 due to the power usage and the size of the card.

I Have a Silver Stone Fortress 2 case. I really like the case other than the limitations of the length of the Video card and the lack of a way to water cool with out modding the case some and even then it looks like from what I saw the rad will need to be thin.

The GTX 670 and 680 may do better later on also with newer drivers. AMD has had a long time to work on there's.

I was trying to find the best place to order one cost wise, I have checked on newegg and Amazon. Those are the only places I have ever ordered from not aware of any other good sites that ma y be cheaper but still have a good rep like amazon.

The one thing that worries me is that I have a Dell U2711 the resolution Is very high and 2 gigs of ram most GTX 670/ 680 cars have may cause problems.

Thanks:

Awesome case! The fortress 2 will take up to a 12" card. There's no worries about a 7900 fitting. That said, if you simply prefer an nVidia card, that's up to you.

If you want more than 2gigs of vram though, it's going to cost you. Best price I can find for a 670 is $460. The 680 starts at $542.

Personally, I see no reason to buy a 680. The 670 gives equivalent performance.

I thought I saw were some one had to cut a slot in the plastic cover over the 180m Fan in order to get the 7970 to fit.
I am not a fan of either one I use to be one of nvidia a long time ago. I have a HD 6950 but from what I have seen the new Nvidia cards or the HD 7950 or 7970 cards will be a big improvement.

I have gone team green and couldn't be happier.

Let me save you some money: You do not need more Vram than what any of these cards have for your single monitor. 2gb is more than enough, even at your increased resolution.

As far as where to buy these, anywhere works fine. If I had to pick, I would go with this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121637
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125423

Both amazing cards with full custom PCB's and aftermarket cooling to make them very very quiet. They should both also fit your case without any problems. And on top of everything, they are selling for the same price as a reference card - so they added all this extra stuff for free.

While the 7950 might take the performance/dollar crown in the top end market, I think that the 670 is the superior card by far, but that's just me. Its a combination of drivers + support + reviews and personal experiences.

In short - don't waste your money on 4gb cards.

Peppered, I'm running 2 EVGA 670 FTWs in SLI with 3 24" monitors in Surround at 5760 x 1080 resolution and have had NO vram problems.

So does that mean games don't need more than a gig of Vram per 1080P monitor or the 680 is fast enough to keep up and get by with the limited 2gb Vram buffer ? perhaps a question for the more inclined ?

Consider supporting the community and looking around in the for sale/trade sub section. I'd been looking for a gpu for a while and there are a few great deals on cards. I also remember hardforums having someone trying to sell 3 MSI GTX 670s at $340 each. It's worth it if you're trying to save cash.
