GTX 660Ti or GTX 670

I don't game much, so I don't know whether it's worth to buy the Gigabyte GTX 670 OC, and just get the Gigabyte GTX 660Ti OC.

Is it worth the extra $100?

It has to be an NVIDIA because I'm running OS X on PC.

I got a i7-3770K on GA-Z77X-UD5H.

both are good, really whichever is cheaper
I personally have always owned EVGA cards, never had an issue.

For the price of a 660ti, ~$300, you can get better performance with a 7950 (+crysis 3 and bioshock infinite free). If you require CUDA or just prefer nvidia then a 660ti is fine.

saphhire 3L 7950 boost

I just got a used GTX 660 TI and I am "relatively" satisfied.

I am gaming at 1680x1050 and did many tests, Heaven, 3DMark etc.etc. and find that the limited 192 bit bus DOES NOT, in any way, make a difference as compared to the GTX 670.

I can actually overclock my memory on the 660 TI with +640 in Afterburner which makes the bandwidth only 10% slower as compared to that of the GTX 670. Even with that massive overclock on the memory, there is only a tiny difference as compared to stock which means that the bus is not even remotely saturated.

MY criteria is therefore another than simply performance:

I have a sh!tty case where many of the oversized cards simply don't fit, this is why I choose the Gigabyte WF 2x WF.

BUT...I have to say I don't like the cooling of the Windforce, at least not for my current PC case. This fan does not blow any hot air out, seeing it like that I would have actually preferred a stock blower over that custom cooler of the Gigabyte.

As to actually answer your question whether the GTX 670 is worth the $100 more? IMO, no. (AT least not in my case but then I am overclocking).

Also, based on my bad experiences with that Gigabyte cooler I would actually choose the MSI.

At 1680x1050 both of those cards seem like overkill...

Absolutely. I built a system for my sister earlier this year and I got her a GTX 650 and it runs The Sims 3 beautifully at 1680x1050. If you don't game much, a GTX 650 Ti Boost should be plenty of power at that resolution.

Of course if he is not gaming "much", it's overkill.

But if someone is gaming, like me, even at only 1680, there is no such thing as "overkill". Each more on performance can go right into enhancement. Go run TR or any game at 4xAA, Tessellation, TressFX etc..etc.. you cannot have enough performance 🙂

It'd be better to put the money spent on any of these cards towards a better monitor if you're only at 1680x1050.
I have trouble with the 660ti if you don't OC its just a bit more than the $100 cheaper 660.
I agree.

does it have to be a 660ti to work with OSX? otherwise get a 650ti and a better monitor with the cash saved or a 660 and monitor IMO
