Whenever i am playing a game like battlefield 3, the most annoying thing happens, if the AC adapter falls out the back of the laptop, clocks drop to 405mhz and lock there until reboot even if i plug it back in it doesn't go back up. I have had dell come round and look at it (i have an alienware M17x) and they thought it was the motherboard so they replaced it, but nothing. So im wondering if anyone could help if they have fixed it or had the problem before. Oh and before people suggest driver updates i have the latest even though this graphics card is fairly new

Get nvidiaInspector and use this command to try forcing power state
nvidiaInspector.exe -forcepstate:0,0
or
nvidiaInspector.exe -forcepstate:0,2

Yoru laptop probably has an energy savers application in the tool bar on the bottom right. You probably have it set on high efficiency or something like that when the AC charger is not plugged in. It could goof and lock there or maybe I'm way off but try to set it in High Performance if its not already.

Hey, Thanks for the help you two, i don't know how i did it, it may be the driver update or maybe the power saver options i was fiddling with but now it seems to stay at a constant 835.3MHz when plugged in and 724.7MHz when the AC adapter is out. The best thing is that it doesn't stay stuck at a low clock speed no more so thankyou !!! Wish you all the best.

Hmm well all seemed to be well but for some reason it was on 405MHz again and wouldn't budge and im not sure why. When i restarted, the graphics card was at 835MHz plugged in and 724.7MHz on battery... im not sure but something is making it stick to idle clocks and not budge when a game starts even with AC... Any ideas ?
