I got a Gigabyte 660 TI OC 2x WF, i might not have the best case/airflow...but I am seeing awful temps on the card.

low/mid 70Cs with demanding games and up to 80C with Kombustor. (Idle 32-33 which seems normal)

On STOCK voltage... (I flashed back a Bios with default voltage, max 1150.0mV, so the card is not even unlocked right now)

Card is about 10 months old, I visually inspected the HSF but it "looks" alright.

I ordered MX-4 since I was out of TIM and will apply new TIM probably Monday, just want to verify that those temps are really way too high for that card?

Otherwise the card seems to OC well (memory +630 no problem heaven/3dmark11 etc.)....

Well this card is OCed out of the box already and since I am seeing temps in the high 70s, up to 80C I didn't do any additional OCing yet, in Heaven etc. it usually goes to 1202/core. (Mind you reference is 915 or something)

When I got the card it had an unlocked bios flashed with 200% Power Control, max. V 1.21 etc.. and he edited the power control max to 290W (!!!!) for a card which can max. maybe tolerate 160W. For me there is no point right now to "experiment" with this seeing my temps at STOCK already reaching 80 with some tests. I just wish I had 10C less for more headroom.

try leaving the case open and see if the temps get that high again, might just be bad air flow

For comparison, the highest I have seen on my Gigabyte non-TI card is 62. I did remove the stock TIM and replaced it with AS5 before installing it, so that might have made a difference. Mine did have pretty good coverage when I first took the heatsink off though, but the coverage on my last card was awful (wasn't a Gigabyte card though.)

the temp looks common if the airflow is bad. maybe, you should consider to improve case cooling instead of comparing card's performance...

I ran a couple of those cards in a HAF 932 with multiple fans and I never saw temps that high. You problem is case airflow not the card.

Note that the PNY XLR8 660Ti hits 80C in their load test. (That's the card I have, too.)

Mine's running F@H, 99% load, at 77C, crammed into a Sugo SG05, and stuffed in between a shelf and a NAS box. (So airflow is for crap.)

Since you're getting similar temps to me, but with a overclocked/unlocked card, presumably offset by better airflow, I'd say your temps aren't low, but they're likely safe.

Well I did a complete new MX-4 thermal job, added new 120mm fans (included on the side of the card, inside the case). Temps are definitely better now, usually doesn't go over 70, except in Far Cry which sometimes can get up to 76. (But then I also added more volts to the card). My (old) case is "ok", but the case is known for NOT having optimal cooling for graphics cards. (I really hate those drive cages right after the intake fans)

I know the temps are safe, maximum temp for GK-104 is 97C, so even 75-77 is WAYYYY beyond the ciritical treshold. (As opposed to that, my old GTX 275 easily did 98C in some benchmarks).

Overall, yes, the absurd situation is that GK-104, although running really relatively cool still profits A LOT from good airflow, especially those custom coolers that dont blow hot air out. Still not sure what to think about them. The other issue of course the idiocy that Kepler starts "throttling" once it hits 70C. (I don't like the term "throttling" since in reality it means "doesn't add that much extra clocks" - but in essence it's the same thing. 70C is simply nothing, I don't know what Nvidia is thinking)
