What are your thoughts? At first I was considering the GTS 450 but given the power draw and acoustics figured the GTX 650 would be the perfect card.

Also is it true no SLI on the 650's?

It would be nice if more games had PhysX support.

Currently, I think it's too pricey to be worthwhile, I don't want to spend $50 extra per game to get PhysX, because that's more than I'm willing to pay for the game itself!

(Assuming you play 3 games with PhysX over the life of this card; otherwise, it will be more expensive if you only play 2 games with PhysX).

I mean, consider that your next video card may be an NVidia 7XX series that does a much better job at PhysX, then you will feel silly for having a dedicated 650 just for physx, because at that point it will be redundant.

So, consider, how many actual games will you use this (considering you will upgrade your main graphics card eventually), and just think about what you are willing to spend extra per game for Physx.

Currently I am with the Red team so need a Greenie to get Physx. That eye candy in Batman AC made me look into Physx. I also don't upgrade my video cards too often.

My last card was 4870 X2. Ignore the Gtx 460 2Win in my sig, that's just a headache of a card. My current card is a 7970.

Are you gonna buy assasins creed 3 for the PC? If you were already planning on it then perhaps you might look into the 650ti instead. Its launched with a bundle for Assassins creed 3. This would give you a way better physx card than the 650 non ti and overall it could be cheaper for you.

The 650ti launched for $149 and AC3 will probably cost about 60 dollars. Ultimately the 650ti would be like $90-$100 dollars. If you are buying AC3 after it launches then i think this is a great option you should consider.

Its just a thought.

Get a 640 if you need a PhysX card. PhysX relies on compute power only, bandwidth is irrelevant. 640 and 650 have the same amount of compute power.

Good idea. But I believe the 650ti does take more Watts. 110W I think, whereas the 650 takes about 65Watts.

That was my first thought. However I checked a Youtube video wherein bandwith did seem to make a difference. Plus the 650 only takes 65watts which seems reasonable.

Use the GTX460 2Win for PhysX then. If you still have it.

That's a piece of @#!#@#!@. Just packed it up and sent it to eVGA moments ago. Traded up to 660ti that I intend to sell.

LOL, then it would be like him having 3 cards in his system. Way way to much power consumption and heat. Sell the 2win and pick up a GTX 650 and pocket a few $$. That actually sounds like a good plan. If I had an AMD card and wanted Physx, I would do the same.

EDIT: Boxleitnerb's idea is even better.

With Batman, I think the price for that game is so low, that you could easily justify the extra cost to get physx support, because the total cost of the game + card now would be closer to the cost of the game alone when it was first released. Plus you'll probably play Borderlands 2, that looks really nice for physx effects, and by now it's price will start coming down too, so you can split the cost of the card between those games.

Anyone have any ideas what new games are planned to support physx? If there were 5 more games, say, it would really help justify spreading the cost out.

Yep the GTX 460 2Win was plagued with cold boot issues, which I was willing to live with. But the heat output caused the GPU to throttle down, this was unacceptable. This was with my side panel open and with two 120mm fans blowing air from the pci slot top of the card's slot.

I was looking on Newegg and the price difference between the GT640 and the GTX650 is ~$20 more ($10 AR)

I would just slap one of these in. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814162124

EVGA GTX 650 for $105.78 AR http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-1...eywords=gtx650

If you ever planned on selling it, it would retain its value more since its an actual Kepler variant.

The price difference between the 640 and 650 isn't too much and I am expecting the 650 to go a bit lower with rebates etc.

BTW your link doesn't work. Get a "Bad Request"

Yeah I saw this, it's on my short list. Waiting for the 660ti to come in the mail and be sold before I get this or the eVGA one.

Then he should keep the 660Ti and call it a day. Sell the 7970 if power consumption is a concern.

I think 750watts is more than adequate for what intend to do. But having the 7970 and the GTX 460 2win (basically 2 X GTX 460) is an overkill and not to mention a waste is so many different levels. I would have one GTX 460 sitting idle all the time while the other one would be doing Physx level stuff.

The 660ti needs to go to fund my 7970. Basically both cards costed me $300. Between the 7970 and 660ti it's a no brainer, the 7970 wins hands down.

I believe my question has been answered. I will let you guys know how the 650 works out.

Thanks for everyone's input.

I use a GTX 650 as my dedicated physx card and it works great in BL2. I run physx high and seems to be pretty smooth when the action starts.

Question what is your performance like when you are running Physx off the 680 SLI?

Would a 660Ti have enough power tho to run physx and game decently?

The 660ti is a $299 card in canada I think that would be overkill for a dedicated physx card.

Do you see any performance improvement by using the 650 as dedicated as opposed to using the 680 SLI cards?
