EVGA has the 700 dollar hydro copper edition, and none of the others. They have been oos for quite some time(at EVGA's site). I don't think soft launch is too far off the mark. I am on a couple auto notify lists haven't been getting any emails(and ive been checking the actual sites). I got one for newegg this week and they were gone within a couple hours.

Evga sent me a email saying hydro copper 580 is available

Um ok? Thats what I just said, those are/were in stock. Im not on that list as im not waiting for that particular card. EVGA has been out of vanilla, sc and blackops models for some time. I believe it is as groove posted above, they probably only got a handful of hydrocoppers today.

Pretty much as expected...GTX580 turns out to be a one off phantom part for reviewers, paid forum shills and early adopters.
NVDA(probably) subsidizes the major loss on each card as part of advertising expenses.
Its the 7800GTX 512 MB deception updated to 2010.
:colbert:
Too bad really as I enjoyed watching the Crossfired 6970s defeat the SLI GTX580s worth hundreds of dollars more.

GTX580 is selling like hotcakes. The spin from the OP is admirable, but most of us see right through it.

I have been watching them since launch, and it is never hard to find one.

If the OP's theory somehow makes the painfully failed launch of the 6970 feel better for some, then I see no problem with it.

Honestly I think he has a grudge because he spent all that money on 480s, and nV turned around and made a much better product a few months later. Buyer's remorse maybe?

Lol....If you go by what Gibbo at OCuK says, the stock for 69xx series is HUGE. like in the thousands. The stock was enough for the GTX 580 but is "restrained."

Not a failure when you sell 50 cards in 5 minutes with no review even up lol.

Also the 69xx series outsold the GTX 570 that came out a week PRIOR to it, Oh yea and that was in 3 hours :) .

Is posts like this really necessary ? I mean come on....get a grip already.

Please explain how the 6970 launch is a failure ? Id like your opinion on this.

Some games it ties the 580 - High res
6970 Crossfire scales awesome. Mostly outrunning 580 SLI
6970's are a LOT cheaper.
Easy to find.

So please tell me why this launch has failed ? And I dont want to hear CUDA/Physx/Tess/ etc: That has already been beatin to death. Twice.

Threads like this aren't necessary and should be locked before they even get 2 replies. They do nothing for the community, and only encourage spin and flame wars.

Or maybe because the GTX580 is in fact nothing more than a paper launch and you're trying to attack the messenger and evade arguing about the main topic!

gtx 580 definitely wasn't a paper launch since you can still actually buy them. soft launch maybe, but paper launch is just contrary to the facts. I doubt that people are flocking to gtx 580 right now considering that 570, 6950 or other cards are far superior value at 16x10, and at 1920+ it is only ~ 10% faster than 6970 with that amount decreasing the higher you go. lack of 580 availability now is most likely due just as much to late/slow 6970 and its boost for nvidia as it is to low 580 supply. if supply is still low in a few weeks or into mid january then nvidia might worry a tiny bit, but unless and until that happens I think that amd has more on their mind right now honestly.

What if "I" have interest in the card for my upcoming build ? As I have posted in several threads now that I have not decided. Yes..the 580 is the fastest card. But thanks to this thread, seems they are hard to find. And when I decide, I buy instantly... So I guess that eliminates it from my choices.

So I guess it will be between the 570 and the 6970 if I go with a single card. I have two weeks till I purchase. So.....

I dont go on treasure hunts.

/thread.

newegg is not the only place to buy cards ,Tiger direct has em. This has been beaten to death for no good reason except for google hits and bumping the thread, go to sleep already.

Thats a load of BS. It might outrun the gtx570 in sli mostly but not the 580.

"Some" games at certain resolutions at certain settings it does.

Here is three examples.

Last time bought from Tiger was 4 years ago, and the package ended up smashed and partly opened.

Not taking that chance again. I buy from Newegg. And where I live...the closest store for computer hardware is in Baltimore. And that is a 4 hour drive.

Paper launch? I have three of them in my system.

Even the place I bought them from has planty in stock. http://www.microcenter.com/search/se...tt=GTX+580&N=0

"Your search didn't return any results.
The item you're looking for may currently be out of stock, or we may no longer be carrying it. You might also try one of the following:"

I've been considering a 580 for Christmas, we'll see at this rate.

So if it is not in stock at your one online store, it is a "paper launch."

Worthless thread...

Please show me where I said at least "once" that it was a paper launch ?

This isn't my thread. If I were to want one tomorrow. I couldnt order. Because they don't have it.

It's that simple.

It's out if stock at newegg usa, newegg canada, ncix, mwave, amazon, evga etc. There are two crappy brands at tiger in stock.

Looks pretty soft. if the thread bother you so much, just abstain from it and save yourself the aggravation.
