Hi, I have an EVGA GTX 580 that is suddenly giving me problems this morning. I tried to play a couple different games, and got crashes to desktop right away. I was able to get into starcraft 2 for a whole game, but it BSOD'ed after I finished. Using EVGA precision, I monitored GPU usage, and noticed it spike every few minutes to 100% just sitting on the desktop with nothing running...... I got a couple BSODs and monitor blackouts (screen just turned off and couldn't go back on) even when surfing the net. Computer very unstable.
Steps I took to troubleshoot:
Uninstalled and reinstalled video drivers
Run cpu at stock clocks
I can confirm temps are fine (less than 75c under load)
video card never oc'ed
I then switched the gtx 580 from system #1 into system #2 (listed below), and moved the gtx 260 from system #2 into system #1, No ISSUES NOW IN EITHER SYSTEM. This card has been working fine for a few months, and I didn't make any changes to my system lately. What gives?
System #1
Asus p6x8d-e
3x2gb Patriot ddr3 1600
Core i7 950
Corsair 750w tx
System #2
Asus P5q-e
2x2 gb corsair ddr2 1066
Core2Quad 9550
Pc Power and cooling 750w
