I'm trying to decide which card is better overall.

I think the GTX 570 has a better performance but I'm not sure...does anyone know?

If you want a powerful PC, you should build your own. The GTX 570 is on average 10% faster than the Radeon HD 6950, but it also costs more and consumes quite a lot more power. It's also not as apt for over-clocking due to a relatively weak power phase design. On those "gaming" systems you linked, though, each of the cards will be slightly bottlenecked by the CPU. If you have $1000 get a Sandy Bridge system instead, much better if you build it yourself.

To be honest I have no idea how to build it myself so I'd rather buy one thats already built. What is a Sandy Bridge system by the way?

Sandy Bridge is a CPU architecture and includes the Core i5 and Core i7 line of CPUs. Both of those are more apt for gaming than a Phenom II X6.

Sandy Bridge is a line of cpus and again google is your friend...http://www.google.com/search?aq=f&s...gc.r_pw.&fp=e7a0bbe362cc4009&biw=1599&bih=788

I know you are new here but even if you know nothing about computers you should at least know how to use the internet to search for information.

I've been comparing the two cards for a while now and google is how I actually ran into this site so get off my balls and shut [redacted] up if you're not going to help me.

Hi, welcome to the AnandTech Forums;

One of our big rules here is that we do not allow profanity in our technical forums. They're meant to be accessible to everyone, which means things need to be kept civil before someone's boss/mother flips out.

Our technical forums are meant to be a place to discuss interesting matters and to help people that seek it - profanity and attacking other members are not values compatible with the community we've built. So we ask that you please refrain from any more attacks in the future.

Profanity and mild insults are only allowed in Off Topic and not in the Technical sub-forums. Just a heads up.

yeah nice attitude. so you can find this place but you cant look at the DOZENS of reviews and come to any conclusion at all? what answers were you expecting to hear? everyone here is simply going to look at the same reviews that you can look at yourself. on top of that you cannot even look up Sandy Bridge? again I understand if you are new to pc stuff but surely you have grasped the concept of google?

Take a look in the mirror; you're not doing any better than he is. This is NOT how we respond to newbies.

I already stated that I've pretty much decided to go with the GTX 570 but I just wanted second opinions, maybe from someone who has used both of them before. Clearly you cannot read or are going out of your way to be a [redacted].

The gtx570 = more expensive 6970 @ 1080p ,there are some priced under 300$ also, which makes it even more attractive.

The 6950 is a bit overpriced right now.

Oh sorry

I'd take the system with the 2tb hardrive and gtx 570.

Sorry about the use of profanity...anyway moving on.

Which one of these two do you think would be better for gaming:

Option 1: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883227343

Option 2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883229232
Honestly both are rather weird systems. The Intel system uses an overpriced & out of date processor, and AMD is not preferred right now because Intel generally has better gaming performance at the high-end. The kind of combination you're looking for given those prices would be something like an Intel i5-2500K processor paired with a GTX 570/Radeon 6950/Radeon 6970.

I wouldn't go with either of those, one has a decent CPU but a weaker video card than you are looking for (#2). The other has a weak CPU but a video card you are looking for.

I think for $1000 you can get a 2500K, MB, RAM, HD, Case and GTX 570 or 6950.

Just put it together yourself. It's not hard, it's like lego. Parts will only fit in their correct slots, you can't make a mistake if you just pay attention.

not everybody wants to put a pc together though. considering only a few minutes ago he had never even heard of Sandy Bridge, I think its best that he gets a pre built pc if he has no pc tech savvy friends.

Agreed. Get a Core i5-2500k + GTX570/HD6950 2GB. AMD's current processors are inferior for gaming; so they shouldn't even be a consideration for games, esp. in a setup for $1000+!!

http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Rattler/

Azza Solano or CM 690 II Case:

2500k + HD6950 for $1,085 OR 2500k + GTX570 for $1,147.

There are some case rebates and so on. So it should be pretty close to the 2 systems you linked, but much better CPU.

Dude buy the parts and put it together. It takes around 20 minutes to put it together and you can Youtube how to do it. If you get stuck you can always post here for help and it's MUCH easier then you think it is.

Huh?
Not if you turn up the details at 1080p, the gtx570 should be faster in most cases,.

I think he's also considering the CPU's at stock clocks in the equation.

For the price I love the 1100T CPU. It's the processor I would buy for ~$200. Just not if I was only gaming.

I was thinking 1080p 4xaa,16xaf, with something like Crysis and graphical intensive games, not cpu intensive games like Left 4 Dead.

Even in the most GPU bound games the performance difference at 1920x1080 is at least 20% going from a Core i5 to a Phenom II X6. In CPU bound games that don't take advantage of more than four threads it can grow to 30% or even higher. A Phenom II X6 makes zero sense for a gaming machine.
