1500 watts at 10 cent /KWH here = 15 cents / hour to run .
Gaming 3 hours a day = 45 cents per day = $13.50 a month, no thanks.

Really? You're not willing to spend an $.15/hr to do something you enjoy?

I mean, you can reasonably argue a lot of negative points about a quad-sli GTX 480 rig, but say you actually owned such a rig would the $.15/hr hold you back?

So unless he buys a 480 Quad SLI gaming rig he can never enjoy gaming? Is that what you're trying to say?

Power is crazy expensive in some places. Especially if you pay for it yourself. I didn't give a shit until I got my own place.

Power efficiency is incredibly important. I guess you have to be paying your own bills before you realize this. I often underclock my Q8200 to 1.3-1.6ghz just because I'd prefer as little power to be used.

Huh? You think $14 a month is a lot of $$$ to spend on a hobby/something you enjoy? :hmm: Minimum wage in Ontario, for example, is $10.25 an hour...

Yeah I'm sure paying 10$ more per month is extremely inconvenient for someone who's whole PC cost most certainly more than 3k..

Yes it is to me. The $14 here and there throughout the homes power usage start to add up . Just because you have money doesn't mean you have to spend it, but then you are probably one of those people with multiple credit cards, student loans, car payments, morgage, etc. I have my home, car, career, everything paid off and owe nobody. I could afford $500 extra per month in power usage if I needed to, that doesn't mean I want to.

My power cost per kwh is a lot lower than some states. NY for instance is 17 cents per kwh or $25 a month in power for that system.

exactly if your rig costs 3k you don't care about power. The heat would suck though as i have my comp in a smallish room.

I guess the difference between us is that I don't look at life by saying: "I can save more money by doing [x]." Instead, my attitude is: "I can earn more money by doing [y]." Just a different approach. Anyways, as other have said, I doubt someone with $2-3k of computer equipment is counting monthly power consumption.
