with 42 amps you would be really pushing your luck if everything was at full load. the gtx480 alone could easily use over 20 amps under full load. what is the gtx280 being used for?

42 amp rail?
I'd say no, thats 400+ watts in gpu you'd be running.

Are you using the gtx 285 as a physx card?
If so ,you might be ok. I don't think a physx card uses much power.

yeah the 280 would be my dedicated physx card if that would make a difference????
good lord. sell that thing and buy a card like the low power 9800gt or gt240. there is no reason to have a 236 watt card in that system for physx. and yes if you were playing a game that was really pushing physx you would likely fry your system. 42 amps is not enough for 2 hd, a gtx480, a gtx280 and an overclocked i5 all under load.

A used gts 250 512 memory for cheap, under 100$
thats still a 150 watt card so do the math. he ceratinaly doesnt want to use all 42 amps. a gtx480 and overclocked i5 could easily use over 30 amps right there. a gts250 under load and factoring in the other components he could be right at 42 amps for the whole system. a gts240 is what he needs.

well thats much better but I would still sell that gtx280 and get a gt240 for physx. that will free up way over 100 watts during those game that use hardware physx. plus you will end up with some extra cash.

yeah kinda overkill for a 280 physx card..... 280's go for about 175 on ebay now. then get a 9800 gt for like 75.

sounds like a plan
