GTX 460 or HD 5870?

$250 CAD for GTX 460 1GB
$350 CAD for HD 5870

Is the 5870 $125 faster than GTX 460?

How good are ATI drivers these days? Need Linux support.

Go for the GTX 460 price to $'s

I don't use Linux but doesn't nvidia have better support for it.
I have heard that Nvidia have better support in Linux, but both ATI & Nvidia have been a hit & miss in Linux for me in the past.

Its probably not 125$ faster, but is it ever(the higher end in general)? Additionally, if you plan on adding a second card, I think the 460 in sli actually beats the 5870 in crossfire stupidly enough, so take that into consideration as well.

Thanks

It look like the 460 is the best deal atm.

460 for sure, i use linux daily and can tell you that ATI drivers still have severe issues in linux, sometimes they work great, others no so much. Nvidia is much much better in this regard and i have never had linux driver issues with nvidia cards(yet, lol just jinxed myself).

Strictly in windows 3d performance i would not say the 5870 is $125 better than the 460, its better for sure no question about that but not by that much $ IMO.

I notice in your sig that you are running Mint 9. Currently I'm running Mint 8 but Mint Debian Edition will be running on this system.

Where can you get a 5870 for just $350 CDN?

GTX460 or 470. 5870 is much faster than the 460, while 470 is closer in performance, yet is louder and consumes more power than the 460 or 5870. Both are better value than the 5870.

I think the GXT 460 1GB is what I'm going to order because it is quick enough for everything that I have for now, and I'm going to stick with Nvidia for drivers support.

Use ShopBot to price check and it still there radeon hd 5870

I first found the price by peruse through NCIX site, but now it required price check to get onto the promo.

Are you actually going to be gaming in Linux? or using Windows for games and Linux for everything else? If you are going to be gaming in Linux, then basically every single benchmark in reviews is irrelevant. I doubt linux is anywhere comparable to windows for games. Look at iOS where games run a lot slower than in Windows and with worse image quality.

Windows Vista for game, but I will purchase a copy of Windows 7 if it improve my gaming experience.

Linux is my primary OS, and Windows is strictly for gaming.
