GTX 460 768mb upgrade Q's

Either one is a good option at your resolution, but you really should look at OCing that CPU too. Its going to need some help to keep up. I wouldn't go lower than them though - coming from a GTX 460 768MB you need at least a GTX 660 or HD 7870 to feel you've made a worthwhile upgrade.

MSi Twin Frozr 7870 2GB, to be honest.

It is worth the additional cooling over the XFX and the whole card is designed with overclocking in mind. Triple overvoltage, allowing you to overvolt the core voltage, memory voltage and auxilary voltage.

To me, it seems like the card that will last longest out of the 7870 and 660.

edit: Forgot to mention that it comes with the highest stock core clock (1100Mhz) of any of the 7870s.

Good luck with your choice.

I just upgraded my HTPC system (AMD Phenom II X3 720/ 4GB DDR3 1600) from a GTX 460 to a GTX 660. The performance boost at 720p is noticeable, but more importantly I can use a little more AA.

My major reason to upgrading was noise, the GTX 460 would get relatively hot in the case/environment I put it in and would become audible. The GTX 660 (GA OC version, $260 at MC) so far is very quiet. It feels good coming home after a hurricane to peaceful Netflix (PS3 was starting to sound like a banshee.)

Gaming wise, I've only played WoW and Batman:AC on it, both ran marvelous (60 FPS, 720px4xMSAA)

OP what motherboard and psu do you have . if you have a decent 970 chipset motherboard consider selling your CPU for 50 bucks and getting a Phenom II X4 955 with a coolermaster cpu cooler and overclocking it to 4 Ghz . at those speeds you will be able to reduce the bottleneck.

the Gigabyte HD 7870 is a very good card. the windforce cooler is excellent. easily keeps temps below 60c on voltage overclocked HD 7870.
