GTX 295

Hi all,

Just got my GTX 295 -

Just out of interest, which card is GPU1 and which is GPU 2? The temperatures are obviously slightly different GPU 1 < GPU 2. I am assuming GPU 2 is the top one - ie the one on the slot card.

Any ideas?

If I had to guess (since I have no concrete idea), I'd say the hotter GPU would be the one on the bottom. Why, you ask? Well, the top GPU's PCB is exposed, so heat can move to the surrounding air and upwards and be exausted through the rear case vent. The bottom PCB is covered with a mesh, and hot air may get trapped underneath it and not be able to rise. Of course if you have a side case fan blowing directly on the video card, this theory goes out the window. My other "proof" is that it seems the top PCB has more stuff.

I believe you are right, but not necessarily for the right reasons. A GTX 295 is basically two cards in SLI. With SLI configurations, the primary card (one that you plug your monitor into) seems to always run hotter than secondary (or tertiary) cards. With the GTX 295 the primary card is on the bottom.

You could always reapply the TIM on your cards and see up close and personal which one has the extra chips on it, Replace 295 TIM

It lowered my temps and thus my noise level pretty nicely.

Yep. The 2nd card in an SLI setup does not draw as much power as the "Primary" card. That is why you dont always add the TDPs of both cards to figure out which PSU you need.
