I'm looking to replace my aging GTX 295, I can't seem to find a decent upgrade to it (still researching). I'm looking to going back to a single GPU solution but with a upgrade of at least 25% performance over the GTX 295.

I currently game at 1920x1080. I don't use AA in my games.

Current specs:
2500K/16GB RAM/Gigabyte Z68 SLI/Dual 24"s/Antec 1200

Any recommendations will be appreciated.

I hate holding out for new cards that constantly get delayed. I don't mind using an older card if the performance/price is right. What about doing a 6950 2gb or GTX 570 and possibly doing SLI later.

Would that at least get me a boost over my existing 295?

A gtx560ti and 6950 would equal a gtx295 today.

Checking ANandtech old and new benchmarks for Crysis warhead.

The gtx295 scores 43 fps, the gtx560ti 44fps and the 6950 48 fps.
The gtx570 scored 52 fps.
SO the gtx570 was closest to the 25% improvement you wanted.
The answer is gtx570.

Had me a gtx295 when they first came out...pretty beast of a card.

Like happy medium posted a gtx570 would be a ace of a replacement but worthwhile would be a gtx580.

Did such a upgrade before and it was well worth it for the gtx580.

Since it seems you have no problems with dual cards perhaps sli gtx460s might be something to look at and cheaper then a gtx580 to boot:)

Thanks for the advice guys.

I jumped on the Newegg 5970 deal, we'll see how it goes :)

i hear ya brother. if we always had to hold out for new cards, we would never upgrade.

the 5970 is a great card even by today's standards. probably the 3rd fastest single slot card you can get. at $300 it's a steal!

I went to a 6950 because I wanted to use DX11. It's as fast as my 295 was but I am no longer limited by vram and I get DX11. I could always add a 2nd one in later if I wanted to, but it was not a bad price and it unlocked shaders as well.

I installed the 5970 last night, I can feel a big performance jump over my 295. BF3 is running silky smooth.
