I am wondering whether to get the GTX 285 or GTX 295. I can't go SLi in the future because I have Asus P5Q-E (doesn't support SLi).

My apprehension from getting the 295 is the poor reviews on newegg and the inconsistent results with programs that can't handle 2 GPU's.

Suggestions, Rumor, Hearsay appreciated,
JOe K.

Only program I found so far that wouldn't use 2 gpu's was an old version of furmark, all the games have been fine. I had a gtx 280 before trading up to the 295. Pretty noticeable frame difference and a big increase in playability in crysis with eyecandy turned on. Newegg reviews aren't the greatest, there's much better places to read reviews. I mean, I read a review on there of everyone giving a 50 pack of zip-ties a 5/5 star for $5 when I got the same thing at the source for less than a buck. Same colours even.

Here's my review: the two drawbacks to the 295 are price and extra heat/noise. With some tweaking you can have fairly low noise and reasonable temperatures, but not as good as with the 285. Everything else the 295 wins.

If you want the GTX295 then I would certainly say it would be wise to upgrade from your Earthwatts 500W....if that makes any impact on your decision.
