I have no problem with overclocked Core i7 + GTX 260-216 SLI and a TX750.

The GTX 280s do take quite a bit more power but they still should be fine:

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardwa...295-quad-sli-review/16

And their test setup is an i7 @ 3.7GHz, which I am pretty sure will take more power than your Q6600 @ 3.3GHz. Although you may be hitting into a bit of a CPU bottleneck with 280 SLI on a Q6600 at those speeds.

Dang... according to that first link, the peak power draw for 280 is under 400 watts so I should be good with my HX520.

Don't forget about the rest of your system...

Awesome price on this card. The Amazon link still seems to be valid.

You don't need anything close to 40A if your PSU is high quality. A system with it realistically uses more like 20-25A on load. That rating is only there to cover the generic, no name PSUs out there.

First link is back at $200.99 AR.

Thats insane, just bought a 9800GTX+ for roughly the same price over here in the UK.

Wow, great deal for those who got in on it if the honor it. That Amazon link is pretty damn good still. Some 9800GTX+ I saw cards cost about that on Newegg. :D

Err... those figures on that chart were for an i7 with 6 gigs of ram and a hard drive. Not just for the cards.

None of this is working, my original post and purchase fell through, other buy.com/ebay auctions aren't working, nor is going direct to their website.

WTF buy.com??? Take the damn things down if you don't have them!!!

I ordered the SC model, but I glanced past the $10 off $200 coupon and since the OP said his was cancelled, I am a bit to nervous to order again and then cancel that order... Seing this post made me cry though, I paid 324.99 - 4 days ago. God damn it... :-/ Oh well, I could return it to newegg and take a $15 restock fee and I'd still be $75 richer. Oh I can just go SLi and tell myself I got these cards for $250 each.

isn't is a 15 percent [%] restocking fee?

SLi sounds good to me; but i may have to pass and wait for i7 x58 MB
- i wonder if GTX280/285 will ever SLi together

what MB do you have now?

PCIe 1.0 is a bit limiting for a card of 280GTX class

i see .. p35 .. yes, you want x38 as bang-for buck
- for Penryn

i am going to X58 after i first get a new Q9550

I tried to re-order a second one to see if the coupon would go through, it shows it goes through until I actually hit the 'place order' link and then shows back to 211.11, so no biggy. Looks like I'll be going SLI if this order goes through as I don't really feel like shipping a card back to newegg, but I still might.

Yep, I seen the review you posted. :D

I'll probably go X58 to be honest. It would be difficult to invest in Penryn when Nehalem is here, despite that there does not appear to be to many differences in performance when it comes to gaming.

well, if you are looking for cheap bang for buck, p45/X38 - but then you will have CF :p

i7 is really "cool" but i am waiting for its next gen of MBs .. Feb, i think

in the meantime, i expect to get a q9550 to play with before i migrate to x58 in a month or two
