Building a new system for the first time and I have a GTX 280 along with an Antec Truepower Quatro 850 PSU.

Do I need to use both power connectors on the Video card itself or just the one PCI-E connector? I'm confused about the warnings because it talks about using an 8-pin connector, but PCI-E connectors are 6-pins aren't they?

I'm feeling very inadequate atm...argg...

You have to plug in both

Also you need a powerful SMPS. I tried to see if a 500w smps would run the 280 but it did not!!!

My 1200W SMPS ran the 280, 2 drivers, 2 HDD's, etc no problem!!!

Yes you will have 1 6 and 1 8 youll have to plug in.

The warning is for people who dont have a 6+2 native and use an adapter to turn 2 6 pin into a single 8.

Look for a power supply that has 2x 6+2 pin PCI-e power connectors. This offers the most flexibilty when choosing vid cards.
You can run 2x6 pin, 1x6 pin & 1x6+2 pin (8pin), or 2x6+2 pin (2x8 pin).

If I confused you further. I'm sorry. :)

Addendum: If you are considering SLI in the future, Get a higher end PSU with 4x 6+2 pin.

Your power supply will easily cover the card. If you don't have the newer 8-pin PCIE plug on it, the 8-pin to dual 6-pin adapter works fine, assuming your card came with one.
