GTX 260 pausing in games

My Evga 260 does these weird pauses when I'm playing. Say I'm playing CS or Heroes of Newerth, every few mins the whole screen will just freeze and then the action will catch up quickly and it's working normal again.

Any suggestions? uninstalling and cleaning and installing lateast drivers didn't do the trick.

Load EVGA's precision tuner and make sure that it is not downclocking to 2D mode when gaming. Also make sure your temps are not spiking.

Did it do this before with the same game or any other game? Did you introduce any new hardware into the config? EG ram ... or change timings or any voltages? Power supply voltages in spec?

Looked at that. Doesn't seem to be the case. Temps are ok. I even turned the fan onto 100% and the issues still exist.

Is there a way to turn on any sort of loggin to see what the GPU is doing?

Download GPUz and on the second page there is a reading of the Sensors. If you check the box for Continuous Reading then you will be able to see a histogram of GPU load. You should also run Task Manager and have the Perfomance page loaded and you can look at a histogram of CPU\RAM usage. This would be a quick and simple look.

Sweet! I'll check that out and look for drastic changes. Thanks a ton man.

I downloaded GPU, turned on the logging, brought up task manager and ran the game in windowed so I could see what the GPU was doing.

The issue was still there. At the point of freezing the cpu would be fine, no mem drops or anything. Then after the game I checked the log. The clocks never changed and stayed where they should. At this point, I'm wonder if it's the Audio drivers?

sigh...

hmm, you could send the card to me 😀 Then I could SLI and get super folding points!

but that is a thought, what sound card are you using? Does this happen in all games or just some?

Happens in the 2 I have been tyring to play. CS Source and Heroes on Newerth.

Disabled all sound. Issue still exists. Ran Prime 95 for almost 10hours straight. No errors.

I guess the only thing left is to try various older drivers? Any suggestion. I'm on the latest official ones now.
