Question GTX 1080Ti

Does the GTX 1080Ti still hold it's own at 1440p ?

I was originally thinking a RTX 3070 and an Asus 27 inch flat screen monitor at 165Hz

Am I silly now thinking GTX 1080 Ti and going for a bit better monitor....like Samsung G7 27 inch curved at 240Hz

Then I could just wait until video card prices get reasonable again, then upgrade and sell the GTX 1080 Ti

My understanding is the GTX 1080 Ti can run games at 1440P pretty well and still be able to take advantage of G-Sync.

Can anybody tell me if I am right or wrong saying the GTX 1080 Ti can take advantage of G-Sync

The G7 is the only monitor I see in this price range that is curved and G-Sync compatible at 27inches.

Depends on what games you want to play. But a good monitor is something you hold on to for a long time, while you change video card more often (or you did before these crazy prices)

Yeah, the monitor will be staying for a long time...that was my thinking.
Just not positive if GTX 1080Ti can handle 1440p decent

I used a 1070 with my 1440p monitor (I don't play the most demanding games), but then I upgraded to 5120x1440 and then it really went downhill.

My plans was to get a 3080, but not at those prices. So now I just turn down the settings.

You get decent frames with settings down ?
Also...how do you like that G9 ? I kind of want it's tiny weeny baby brother

I really like it, although it is a special kind of monitor. It is optimized for immersion in games, so if you mainly play fast paced competitive FPS , this isn't the best monitor. Also HUD info are sometimes in the edge of your FoV, compared to a 16:9 monitor. But great colors. Also 1070 only aupports 120hz for 5120x1440p as gtx 1xxx series does not support support dsc.

No I don't get decent frame rates, but it is OK for me to play 30-40 fps. (well, what other options are there?)

I have a 1080ti sitting on a shelf beside me. I am about to drop it into a non-gaming build. It actually has decent performance across the board. My card is (or was, haven't checked recently) worth more than I paid for it. I chose not to sell, because it is a solid performer, and more GPUs have died for me than any other piece of hardware. I have a 3090 now, so worst case, I will have to drop back to a 1080ti, though I'd probably just buy a 6900XT to replace the 3090.
