GTX 1080 Founders Edition or custom build?

Guys, what's your advice: should I buy GTX 1080 Founders Edition, or wait for the custom builds to show up? From what I read the custom editions may not be really a lot cheaper after all.

Wait for the custom if you don't absolutely want to have a 1080 ASAP.

Custom. The 1080 FE/reference cards are limited by power delivery and it's entirely possible custom will get you another 100-300MHz OC and be quieter to boot.

NO ONE should buy the FE. don't encourage this business practice of charging more for lesser products! fight the power! vote sanders 🙂 (joking, i'm not american...)

Ultimately it's up to you. Personally, I decided to wait. I had one in the cart on newegg when they updated the site ready to hit the order button, but ultimately decided to wait. I have the disposable income saved for a new GPU, but as they say, "A fool and his money are soon parted." It may have been a different outcome if there was a game coming out that I would be unable to play with my 290x, or if I had a very dated card, or if I was building a new system. Also, I'm not married to nVidia or AMD. I buy the card that best suits my needs at the best price, so it just didn't make sense to purchase early on impulse when we don't even have reviews of Polaris yet. I plan to live on for many more years yet. What's waiting another few weeks for a new GPU going to cost me?
