GTX 1070 have only 1920SP!

Do you remember GTX770 vs 760?
760 was cut same as is 1070 vs 1080.
And i dont think it was because yields problem(on 2years mature 28nm)
They just want this HUGE GAP in performance.

Probably 970 just tanks more than 980 and so 1070 could be more than 60% faster in some games. Remember this 70% is only on one/two games and not an average of 10 or more.

Indeed, just game at 1080p and pretty much all 200$ cards will perform pretty good

Yup, they don't want to cannibalize 1080 sales. And people stuck on G-sync have no choice. 😉
 
Personally I believe GTX 1070 may be a good product (unlike GTX 1080) but it should be closer to $350. I will wait for the official reviews but i believe a lot of people will be extremely happy with the perf/$ (at $379) and perf/watt.

Also i would really like to see it against Polaris and see each cards pros and cons.

Yeah, but we're talking about x60 Ti, and the 760 Ti only had 1 SMX disabled. Even on a mature process you're still going to have defects and depending on how the chip is designed it may require disabling an entire group of SPs.

A 1060 Ti either has additional SMs disabled (possibly up to 7) or as I said before some of the memory controllers (so that it runs with 6 GB of memory instead of 8 GB) or some combination of both.

But that still leaves this huge gap between the 1080 and the 1070 and it's a pretty big waste to bin chips with only 1 or 2 damaged SMs to 1070 by disabling another 3 perfectly good SMs. Right now there might not be enough of those to justify a different product category, but eventually the process will mature to the point where it becomes viable. Then again it's possible that Nvidia doesn't anticipate that happening before Volta (though that's not expected until late 2017 at the earliest) so it's just the cost of progress.

Nvidia has never released a x70 that was as cut as the 1070. Usually a 75% enabled chip was x60 Ti (or in some cases where the x70 was a smaller chip than the x80, a reuglar x60 was the 75% chip) but now it's the where the 1070 is at. Who knows exactly what they'll do as we're in uncharted territory to some degree.
 
Not if it comes x months after the 1070 and 80 have been on sale! People don't micro niche that much 🙂

It is of course entirely possible that the node simply is difficult for big chips.

It's actually about 70% faster but exaggerate away. And I was refering to 1070 being faster than Titan X. Continue to complain and cry wolf for another two weeks or so. I look forward to new excuses and negative exaggerations when 1070 is indeed faster than Titan X.

It actually depends, it seems there will be some variance in boost clocks from card to card and case to case. Lower ambient temperature = higher boost clocks.
It is right in that 60-70% range so saying 60% is an exaggeration is like saying 70% is an exaggeration.

BTW. Just a few days ago no one cared about the stock Titan X performance because stock clocks are abysmally low in its case. And now all of a sudden comparing something to the stock TitanX seems viable. Obnoxious double standards

1080 vs 980 there is 80% increase in teraflops and 25% SP
1070 vs 970 there is 66% increase in teraflops and 15% SP

1080 have 80% more Tflops vs 980 and is 60-65% faster than GTX980
1070 have 66% more Tflops and should be only 40-45% faster than GTX970.

Btw TITANX is 46-50% faster than GTX970.
980TI is 46% faster than GTX970

I think 1070 will be slower than TITANX and 980TI by small margin.

NVIDIA posted the product page of its upcoming GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card, confirming its clock-speeds, and related specifications. The card features a nominal GPU clock speed of 1506 MHz, with a maximum GPU Boost frequency of 1683 MHz. The memory is clocked at 2000 MHz (actual), or 8 GHz (GDDR5-effective), working out to a memory bandwidth of 256 GB/s. The company also rates the card's single-precision floating point performance at 6.45 TFLOP/s. Other key specs include 1,920 CUDA cores, 120 TMUs, and 64 ROPs. The GeForce GTX 1070 goes on sale, on the 10th of June, 2016.

Well this is better than some had speculated.
The 1070 should handle anything maxxed 1920x1080 and 60fps with no problems.

Considering they had done the exact same pricing structure ($1000/$650) and time between releases (3 months) looking at the Titan/780 and Titan X/980 Ti, I'd say they were sticking with what worked for them in the past.

You want AMD to come and make NV to lower their prices so you can buy NV cards cheaper?

That is exactly kind of mindset that allows NV to increase their prices.

Who cares about stock Titan X. Didn't you yourself spend almost a year emphasizing how after-market 980Ti is 25-30% faster than a stock Fury X? Be consistent then and compare 1070 to AIB 980Ti that most PC gamers purchased, not that stock blower $1K overpriced Titan X.

Even if 1070 beats a stock 980Ti/TX, a stock 670 beat 580 by 20%. Fact is it would be the worst x70/75 series card from NV ever; the most cut down x70/75 series card ever.

Considering NV also raised the price from $329 970 to $379-449, this is a double hit to gamers. There is no need to defend this because IF NV fans keep defending NV, it's only encouraging NV to maintain or worse extend the business practices of raising prices and/or using marketing brand name manipulation to sell highly neutered cards as 2nd tier level. 570/670/970 were all much better in reference to the 1st tier card were produced from.

NV is effectively raising prices on both x70 and x80 tiers now by delivering less for more $. 680 outperformed the 580 by 30% for $499, not $599-699. I still don't get why so many go out of your way to defend what's happening in the GPU industry right now unless people feel superior paying more as a token of their "elite gamer status"?

Great post. That's what many of them want and then skip AMD anyway. If P10 ~ Fury X, AMD should price Polaris 10 at $349. With mining, the card will be projected to pay for itself in ~ 4.5 months, making it a bargain anyway, while still costing $100 less than a reference 1070. Early adopters will buy every single Polaris 10 they can get their hands on since mining is only becoming more profitable. Then by the fall when the early adopter wave subsides, AMD can always drop the price to $299-329. It's not as if NV loyalists would have purchased a $249 Polaris 10 anyway. They would have spent extra on the 1070 ($299 280X vs. $380-450 770 2-4GB), or would have waited 3-4 months for 1060Ti.
