On topic: Anyone have any idea how the GTS 450 would act as a dedicated PhysX card over a 9800 GTX+? I'm using a 5870+9800GTX+ with the nVidia Beta drivers (hopefully they keep that loop hole open) and was wondering if the 450 would give me more bang.

Are you willing to spend $130 just for PhysX? Are there any upcoming games(Fall/Winter) which use PhysX?(Curious)

If I could get one for $100 (with GCs) and turn around and sell my 9800 GTX+ to a friend for $50, it's only $50 out of my pocket and if it performs better - than why not? I can always re-sell it for $100 too.

Isn't it just bragging rights? "I got a hybrid rig, what what!" haha.

So Nvidia launched a card that's slightly slower than a 5770 for $10 less, reinforcing the new pricing on the 5770. How is that not a win for the consumer? How is a $160 5770 "less suck"?
$10 less? Did you factor in the shipping Newegg is charging for the card? More like a $3-4 difference, for a card that's 7-12% slower. Heck a GTX 460 768 is only $30 bucks more, and reputedly 18-20% faster. A GTX 460 1gb is only 11-17% better than a 5830, for $30-50, but which would you rather have? BTW, AMD would have lowered prices of the 5770 regardless, since they're coming out with new cards and the GTX 460 768mb has lowered in price significantly.

However, AMD has admitted they will price the 5770 the same as the 450.

I can't help but think that $130 is initial MSRP (with 170 being the 5770's MSRP), and we know how bogus those are on mass market etail cards. The GT240 had an MSRP over $100 when introduced, and those were commonly found for $30-50 etail.

If it's a $80-90 AR (like the 4850s it competes with performance wise) in a few weeks it'll be a winner. If it's still trying to be a $130 card, not quite so much.

While I wouldn't have a problem getting a 450, I'd rather find an awesome deal on a 460. PhysX is relevant enough for me to have as an option. I really would like to see the 6000 series Radeons before making a purchase.

Just a suggestion: If you're going to compare pricing, include MSRP and street price before MIR. Rebates are suspect to begin with, IMHO. I and many others avoid purchases that require a MIR.

Was that suppose to be a joke? I could get a GTX 460 768MB for about the same.

Add to that, use less power, generate less heat, be overall quieter, and have higher resell value.

Its 149 after rebate. So you would rather spend 130 plus shipping on a 450?

All of you need to chill out. You guys are way to busy throwing accusations of Troll at Happy Medium and are failing to see his point. The performance of the 450 is between the 5750 and the 5770. Given a few months nvidia will improve performance through driver updates.

Having said that, nvidia does seem to be having a problem as of late with updates and all :\. I'm going to assume that is only a temporary hiccup and not a harbinger of things to come.

And, as said earlier, the 450 has benefited us already as AMD dropped the prices of their cards because of it.

Off topic, after reading all the comments about SLI/X-Fire, I'm going to stay away from that technology. Sounds like way too much trouble.

That is the problem with Nvdia. It does not have a few months time, in a couple of months from now we will be seeing new chips from AMD at which point, GTS450 will become obsolete.

Low end 6000 series comes in 2011. So 4 months and the holiday season.

No, I wouldn't spend $130 on a GTS 450, nor would I spend $149 for a GTX 260, nor would I spend $155 for a GTX 460.

In my post I said I could get a GTS for 450 for $100 before taxes. I'm friends with a small vendor locally who will have these cards in stock on Tuesday.

This shop doesn't carry GTX 260's Super OCs, and his GTX 460's start at around $169.99 and they don't have rebates.

So, when I asked is the GTS 450 a better PhysX card over my 9800 GTX+ because I can buy one out of my pocket for $50 (have someone who wants to buy my 9800 GTX+, offering it to them for $50) the question was rather straight forward. I wasn't asking for alternatives (that were more costly to me ontop of that used more power, created more heat, and would be bulkier.)

I'd want a smaller card for my PhysX needs and was curious - would this card be better than a 9800 GTX+. If in the end it wasn't I could turn around and re-sell it for $100 easy.

Yeah that was my thought as well. This time AMD is not doing the obvious. They are releasing mid-range cards to fill $200 void they created for the 5XXX series.

I thought the 6700 series was supposed to appear next month, according to rumors?

http://vr-zone.com/articles/-rumour-amd-radeon-hd-6700-series-to-feature-256-bit-memory/9733.html

yes, Oct 24 or the 25th. Thats a $180+ part, these cards are going to be all under $130 in 3 weeks, without rebates. (5770,gts450,5750, gts455?).

Those 6770 cards are gonna be in a different price bracket ,and will be competing vs the gtx 460 1gb.

edit: the lower end 6000 series comes next year.

Your post should gave mentioned that.

Im guesing the difference between a 9800GTX+ and the 450 would be negligible. I don't think its worth the $50

Thank you lifeblood.

Let me second this sentiment.

This thread has too much personal animosity and negative member opinion infused throughout...my choices are:

1. delete posts left and right, obliterating about 30-40% of the thread

2. hand out thread-derail infractions left and right, forum will be quiet for a week

3. lock the thread

4. place a friendly warning as a post in the thread letting people know I am watching and the thread-crapping and thread-derailing that occurred to-date in here is going to stop or I will be forced to make it stop...

I am going with option 4, feel like giving you all a second chance.

Keep it on-topic folks, stop harassing each other and pissing in one another's Wheaties.

No more warnings in this thread, infractions from here out.

Where the HD 5770 is competing well since the GTS 455 is MIA, plus the GTX 460 1GB will face some serious competition making it irrelevant after being released a couple of months ago.

Has nothing to do with the GTS450, but I noticed in Anand's graphs, my 4890 is twice as loud in idle as a GTX 480 but only 0.7db quieter in load.

Its impressive how overblown that got.

yeah, but nobody said 4890 was quiet either. the fact is if noise is a concern, one could have easily grabbed a cheap s1 rev2 from ewiz for under $20 + some cheap 120mm and get the job done with overclocking and all. for 480gtx, there are only substantially more expensive aftermarket cooling options are available, not even sure if it would be safe to dump all that heat back inside the case. the card was already commanding a huge premium (at one point anyway), so an additional expense on top of that might have seemed a bit excessive.

as for me, I did get my 4850s stock cooler replaced A.S.A.P. if had enough $$$ to get the 480 at launch, I would have absolutely made sure that I get some water cooling to go with that.
