Uhh.....What are you talking about?

Yeah, when the card is 8% slower.

SO your saying it should be 15$ less? thats about 8% right?
So this card sucks because of 5$ difference in price /performance?
Well it runs cooler and quieter, is that worth 5$?

The person you quoted said you can get a 5770 for about 100$.

you know the market is too damn saturated with similarly performing cards when we are arguing about 5-10 bucks in price/performance.

No, it sucks because it's slower than a card that's 11 months old, it sucks because it comes at a time when ATI is launching new cards, it sucks because it's priced about the same as the 11 month old card that beats it.

Well it runs cooler and quieter, is that worth 5$?
That's not saying much considering the 5770 was cool and quiet to begin with. 3-4 celsius difference does not impress me. And the noise levels are about even.

you know the market is too damn saturated with similarly performing cards when we are arguing about 5-10 bucks for price/performance.
Which is more reason why this card is pointless.

I still cant find this 100$ 5770? I tried google.

Without rebate best price I found was $140, these cards go for $130 AT LAUNCH.
So 8 percent less performance for 10$ less? Is that soooo bad?

Well, 'at launch' doesn't mean a whole lot in this case. Nvidia's launch is much later then AMD's 5770 and 5750 launch so it has to be cheaper since it's not faster and wants to have any chance at selling.

Without rebate, $140 vs. $130 is close enough to not matter. It's slower, it's cheaper. But, there are rebates available for the 5770, I have a feeling that Nvidia's partners will offer the same for the 450's because these cards aren't likely to move without them, just my guess.

It'd be one thing if a card was 10% slower and 5% cheaper then another. Likely those cards would be close enough that who would care? One is cheaper and slower than the other. But in this case, after manufacturers rebates are considered, the GTS 450 is slower and more money. I think that's what a lot of the posts are about. Not that it's slower than a nearly year old mid range part, but that it's not cheaper at the same time. 10% slower and 10% more expensive make a card not very attractive (numbers just an example).

Yes , I agree.

Some of these guys are acting like the card is total crap.
It's not like the 5830/or gtx465 launch when they were 70$ to much and they were way slower, ran hotter and had more power draw.

I don't get it? Maybe just a card for the newb to say well 460 is $30-40 more so I'll just buy a 450 for less and still have close to the same performance because 450 is only 10 away from 460. lol

Yeah it's not a 465 or 5830 level of suck, I agree happy. It is, however, disappointing. Now if some rebates bring it under $100 it'll be a good card. :)

Did you mean 5750 near the 100$ mark? At the cards target res. 1600x1050 the gts450 is faster then the 5750 but slower then the 5770.

$100 was just a guesstimate, but after looking, the lowest price in the past has been $113 AR with free shipping for the 1Gb 5770. There is a 1GB 5770 right now for $120 AR:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...shTD_EtSCKop5Q

There seems to commonly be 5770 at $130 so I guess I should have said $130 instead of $100. I also think that it is very possible for GTS 450 to have "deals" lower than MSRP soon after launch.

I paid $97 for my pny xlr8 250gts...It's about the same performance with the 450gts (assuming that it is). SO I think that the 450 gts just needs to drop its price just a lil tad bit to be mouth watering product.

:p

Not trying to dispute that SLi 460 may stutter, but from that video you linked, both setups are clearly stuttering/inadequate.

Look at the left screen in the first 25 seconds. 5870 clearly isn't running the game smoothly either. That's not a surprise considering both are barely breaking 30fps in a FPS. I remember playing Crysis at 1920x1080 2AA in that exact area and my 4890 would do 28-31 fps, stutter fest. Personally, I found 45 fps the bare minimum in Crysis to achieve anything one can call smooth.

As far as GTS450 goes, I still prefer the 5770 over it. However, with so few $$ between them and the 460 768mb, I'd skip eating out a couple of times to get 40%+ performance increase. Both GTS450/5770 just show how much better the 460 768mb is!

the stuttering doesn't have much to do with the framerate number shown up top in that video. He actually uses different resolutions and AA levels to get both setups to around 30 fps. Thats besides the point. Someone who is really into gameplay, framerates, etc.. someone with a knack for competitive first person shooters online, or someone who uses really high fps or refresh rates on old games could easily tell the difference in the two videos. The dual gpu is showing the infamous "microstutter". Imagine the single gpu showing frame 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 to infinity with a .001ms gap between showing each frame. Then the dual gpus render frame 1, .006ms later frame 2, .019ms later frame 3, .001ms later frame 4, so-on and so-on. That gives multi gpu a hitchy/choppy feel, even if the fps is higher than the single gpu...

Tempered, I wasn't saying that GTX460 SLI wasn't stuttering. I was just pointing the fact that 5870 wasn't running smoothly to me. I don't play any games professionally. At the same time I would never play any FSP game at 30 fps. Therefore, such video was less than helpful. I would have liked to see GTX460 SLi running a game at 50-70 fps and then seeing the so-called microstuttering. Even without microstuttering, the setup was choppy to begin with. Therefore, it's impossible to say if the cards were too slow in the first place, or driver issues are at work.

Crysis doesn't need to run at sky high FPS to run smooth, it has some motion blur effects that even at 20fps, feels like 25-30fps. Microstuttering is an inherent issue with all multi GPU solutions, :)

GTS 450 consumes 6W less than the HD 5770 and 3W less than the HD 5750.

In load with Crysis, the GTS 450 consumes 3W more than the faster HD 5770 and 26W more than the HD 5750
24693.png

In Furmark, the GTS 450 consumes 8W more than the HD 5770 and 44W more than the HD 5750
24696.png

In Idle temperatures, the GTS 450 runs 11C cooler than the HD 5750 and 10C cooler than the HD 5770
24695.png

At load in Crysis, the GTS 450 runs 4C warmer than the HD 5750 and 10C cooler than the HD 5770
24692.png

With Furmark, the GTS 450 runs 2C cooler than the HD 5750 and 4C cooler than the HD 5770
24694.png

At Idle, the GTS 450 is .5db noisier than the HD 5770 and the GTS 450 is 2.6 less noisier than the HD 5750
24699.png

At full load, the GTS 450 is 4.2db quieter than the HD 5770 and 7.1 quieter than the HD 5750.
24698.png

What I don't understand is the following, you state that the GTS 450 is 8% slower and costs $5 less than the HD 5770, making it a better buy, plus runs cooler and quieter, but for me, such $5 makes little relevance,

Why you don't state the fact that the HD 5770 costs only $5 more which buys you 8% more performance, plus consumes 8W less of power, has very little difference in terms of noise and temperature compared to the GTS 450 (Because I doubt that you can tell the difference of 4.2db of noise at load, 8W less watts power consumption at load, 10C of higher temperatures at load and 8% of more performance in average). It only managed to beat the HD 5750 by a very slim margin, and usually loose against the HD 5770.

It seems to me that you are using double standards here.

It's not a total failure simply because its pricing isn't horrendously high. We can all argue about release date and what not, but the fact is, the gts450 will be competing vs the 5770 probably for the next few months, and it does fine. NV feels they can get a price premium for CUDA, even if performance isn't as good.. it's up to users to decide with their pockets.

If someone wants a cheap GPU for gaming and doing some work, i'd recommend the gts450. Why wouldn't you? It's price is close enough, perf is close enough, power use is close enough.. and it gets CUDA. There won't be anything in this price bracket replacing either the 5770 or gts450 for a long time. Just buy it now and ebay it later if you have to.

Now, buying a new gtx460 or 5850 now.. i'd recommend waiting. We're a month away from total obsolescent of these mid-range performance cards.

i heard 67xx will be out next month, any chance for 5830 to drop to ~$130 soon? now its $159-189. Will AMD insist x8xx be more expensive than x7xx despite the generation gap?

Na I think there is a gts 455 that will compete with the 5770. AT least thats what the rumors say. Its supposed to be a further cut down gf104 core . (cut down gtx 460 model)
This card is meant to compete with the 5750.
I believe Nvidia with smack that card in between a 5770 and 5830.
Seems possible but its just a rumor.

You mean my don't tell people to wait for a card comming in 3 months stance?
You have it confused.

This thread is about the gts450, not how to troll "happys" posts.

No, it sucks because it's slower than a card that's 11 months old, it sucks because it comes at a time when ATI is launching new cards, it sucks because it's priced about the same as the 11 month old card that beats it.

The 5770 is priced that way now.
Two months ago it was $160+, and it's still $140 before rebate.

So Nvidia launched a card that's slightly slower than a 5770 for $10 less, reinforcing the new pricing on the 5770. How is that not a win for the consumer? How is a $160 5770 "less suck"?

And this mythical GTX455 has what to do with GTX450?

Caught him in his own trap! Hehe.

On topic:
Anyone have any idea how the GTS 450 would act as a dedicated PhysX card over a 9800 GTX+?

I'm using a 5870+9800GTX+ with the nVidia Beta drivers (hopefully they keep that loop hole open) and was wondering if the 450 would give me more bang.
