in the techpowerup review gts450 SLI is14% faster than a gtx460 and about 4% slower than a gtx470. sounds about right and the gtx460 is certainly still the better deal. gts450 SLI costs over 20% more for only 14% more speed and will always be dependent on sli working and scaling almost perfectly. again anybody buying gts450 sli over a single gtx460 would not be making the best decision.

Wow, they managed to fit the card into a gap that was virtually non existent. Gotta give credit for that.

Thanks for the links.

The 450 is a good card but the reviews suggest that the 460 is the better buy due to its playable frame rates.

now bring on the gts455!

With a couple driver updates this card will have 5770 performance, run cooler and be more quiet also. It does use 8 more watts though.

The gtx460 just got some boosts on it's second driver, the same will happen for this card.
New 260 series driver ......

Are these the bugged, leaked 260.52 drivers that nvidia has asked all the sites hosting them to remove, the ones that break SLI ?

Because there are still no new betas or whqls released from nv themselves to be used.

On topic, the GTS 450 is garbage. If money is a concern, skip a lunch out or take the bus to work for a few days and get a 460 instead.

The only good thing about this card is NV will finally stop selling 8800GT cards (8800GTS, 9800GT, 9800GTX, GTS 250 and so on)

Who knows though, there will probably be a GTS 750 using the same core as the 450 four years from now.

I think they're a later build than the leaked ones. AT's review mentioned OpenCL being broken in the reviewer build but that Nvidia planned for the ones going live today to have this fixed so the live driver will hopefully incorporate a few more fixes.

On the whole, I think I'm more interested in the new drivers than the GTS450. Especially this little gem dynamic tiling from FUD :

While the feature contains no functional description, settings include Nvidia Recommended, Off, Safe and Unsafe. According to an article on IngentaConnect, Dynamic Tiling is a software mechanism that makes effective use of shared caches on simultaneous multithreaded (SMT) processors by partitioning the shared caches into dynamically-sized "tiles" to improve performance and reduce excessive cache conflicts.

Interesting....

Yeah I just saw that.

I generally don't bother with anything from pcper, their reviews are too slanted. They somehow managed to recommend the GTS 450 and gave it their 'gold award', while every other site is calling it a turd.

The new drivers I want though, as there have been issues with SLI stuttering for me. There are a lot of issues for 460 SLI users as well with gpu usage at 50% so hopefully these drivers will fix all this.

1+, the GTS 450 is too crippled, :(

Has nothing to do with the GTS450, but I noticed in Anand's graphs, my 4890 is twice as loud in idle as a GTX 480 but only 0.7db quieter in load.

Its impressive how overblown that got.

GTS450 pops in right between HD5750 and HD5770 performancewise, but ends up at the same price as HD5770? Yeah, that's not gonna be a huge hit. 11 months ago, HD5750 and HD5770 delivered the same performance as GTS450 is doing now. At lower power consumtion. On a smaller die. At the same pricepoint.

Good job to Nvidia, for not managing to create something more competetive during the 11 months of extra development time.

Yeah and they manged to release ir one month before AMD is replacing their 5770 with a card from their brand new series' lineup.

Price is key. If it costs the same as a 5750 it's a bargain, if it costs the same as a 5770 it's terrible.

While its hardly "All aboard the FAIL bus",the 450 doesn't look to good against the HD5770 which is now priced similarly.
Most of the reviews say its a pretty good card but I don't see it as a compelling reason to buy NVDA this round.
This new card is also going to find going up against the 6 series cards due out shortly a very difficult sell I suspect.

The perf/mm^2 deficit is probably the most worrying thing about this launch, for the long term. It's clearly a competitive card, but they require 45% more area to get there.

Surely in the 11 months since the 5770 Nvidia could have redone Fermi to get a "Fermi II" where that number is not so extreme? AMD has, and if those 68xx benches/die sizes are correct then that figure will increase by another 10-15% before Nvidia can even respond.

So Nvidia better have a plan for being 50% more area efficient on the same node, or AMD will have all the pricing control they could want and drop 67xx and 68xx until Nvidia is in the red.

Well, when Fermi 1 (GF100) was massively delayed, the line was that everything else wasn't delayed and was still on schedule. There was even noise about a 2010 high-end refresh.
How believable that is when we've only just got the GTS450 now, and still have more products left to wait on, is anyone's guess.
The absence of a 32nm process from TSMC might mess up any Fermi refresh plans though if they were based around 32nm.

lower price please, I just got a 5770 for $129, if nVidia can lower this one, and AMD lower again, I might be able to afford a CF configuration sooner than I thought.

I think nVidia needs to lower the price now, considering the Radeon HD 6700 series will be out soon.

The competition is intense, Its really good.

It usually doesn't make sense, however, if current Fermi is losing badly, nVidia really has nothing to lose, so a brand new refresh might not be bad at all.

You are a broken record. Every Nvidia launch or feature is garbage to you. What were you expecting out of this launch anyways? They targeted the 5770 and are pretty damn close. And factory OC cards typically beat it.

Member callouts are unacceptable. Post your opinion about the product in a way that stays on-topic or don't post.

How come I never hear about these cards?

This GTS455, when is it coming out? how much is it going to cost, how much power will it use?

People are saying lets not get exited about the 6series, but this, the 475 and the 495. No pics, no specs, no news at all, not even fake benches, but they are still being talked about by a select group of people I might add.
